Maybe I'm just a little partial because I'm running the KDW new tread's and I think they handle very well for the money

BTW, you in Beaverton much? Maybe I've seen you around...
Yeah the OP wasn't very specific and hasn't chimed in. I was assuming he meant a tire in the exact same category as the Advans for cheaper. If he doesn't, well then it depends on what he wants. I'm sure the KDW is a great tire in its category but that category doesn't include the Advans...

I'm in Beaverton as little as possible because the police there like to follow me till I sneeze or look at them funny then it's red and blue lights flashing and stupid *** tickets...

If you're doing all that on 711's and your name isn't Schumacher, then I'm guessing you run with a bunch of guys with extra chromosomes.

Im opting for the RT-615 in the 235 40 17. I hear that the 255 40 will fit the stock rim but not quite right. I wish Falken would make a 245 40 17 I hear that is just right for the stock 8".

You have that backwards; the do make 245/45/17 but not 235/45/17 (stock Evo size). I would recommend the 255/40/17 over the 245/45/17 because it has a closer overall diameter to stock, and with the sidewall stiffnest there is almost no slop. 245/45/17 is a bit too tall and will change your gearing a bit.

If you're looking for decent performance from an extremely economical tire you gotta look at the General Exclaim UHP. I've had a set for a couple weeks now. the ones I got are 235/40/18. They are definitely NOT AO46's in terms of grip (but then again not many are), but I've been impressed with their grip for the spirited everyday driving that I do. I'm sure there are better tires if you need a track tire, but for the everyday stuff, they're excellent and you will have a hard time beating the price. I paid $95/ea for mine and they have a a traction rating of AA and a treadwear rating of 380. I imagine I will get 30K miles minimum out of them. I ran the Toyo T1-S before that and I really liked that tire and it had a treadwear rating of 280 and I got almost 25K miles on them.

Anyway that's a couple of good options I have found since I can't justify the cost of replacing the Advans.

Actually there are brands that make a 245 40 17. The manufacturers spec sheet says they will, on the low end of the scale, fit the stock 8" rim. Pretty much every manufacturer says a 255 is too wide for an 8". It will fit but your contact area might not be complete.

to add to the heap: I have a set of Michelin PS2's (stock size) on my BBS rims and a set of Falken RT615's on some stock enkei's (245 sized) and I can give a bit of a review.

The PS2's are great "grand touring" tires. They're quieter than the advans on the highway, last a lot better, have good grip, are more compliant, and are very predictable when pushed. The sidewalls are softer and you will notice a decrease in steering response and initial turn in. I still was able to win an autox on these tires.

The RT615's are great perfomance tires. I have them on now and notice how much stiffer they are. The performed great at a recent HPDE and showed very little chunking even with me being kinda mean to them. I'm very impressed with this tire, but it is a rough rider on the highway. I do appreciate the extra gearing (taller tire) on the highway.

A side note, the falkens are "reinforced" tires, and as such are very heavy compared to the michelins, and even heavier than the stock advans.
