Sway bars....strut bars...all the bars....

Just got my Evo IX 3 weeks back & chanced upon the endless types of handling bars available for our cars...fr Carbing..Cusco...etc.

My car is mainly street driven with maybe the occasional track day for fun. So what bars should be added for improved handling & ridigity for the street dudes?
Cos i dun wanna go on overkill mode with all the various bars in the market.

PS: I only 'upgraded' my front strut (Cusco with brake stopper) cos it looks nicer.

I actually ordered a rear Cusco sway bar. But i was told by another vendor that adding a rear sway might not improve handling cos it tends to induce oversteer when i let off the gas in corners? So i was adviced to get "wat i need" instead of wasting on all the bars, braces...etc.

So kinda confused abt the part abt 'wat i need".

Yes, please don't just start adding bars because they look cool and are cheap. Look closely at what the expert suspension tuners use in their packages and follow their lead. You'll probably end up with a much better setup and only spend money on things that work together to make the handling wonderfully balanced instead of just a bunch of random parts that don't really do anything.

Look at Robispec.com, read up on the Vishnu/Gerrard Ohlin Setup, and check out John Mueller with RRE. For reference, the Vishnu/Gerrard setup utilizes the stock sways.

Alrite thanks guys.
Seems common concensus is to get a stiffer rear sway. Even the Robispec setup recommends one.
I'll save the braces for the future.

He doesn't recommend a random sway bar, and no, that is not the consensus. He has a specific 27mm that is used WITH his combo of springs and bushings. It is a delicate balance...

Yes, randomly adding bars will have detrimental effect. It also depends on YOUR driving style. Do you like a very oversteering setup (ie. good for auto-x) or do you prefer neutral, or perhaps a safer "understeer" setup which is like stock?

I get your point about a proper suspension setup. But where i am from (Asia), i dun have access to the Robispec or Vishnu setup unless i shipped over.
The only suspensions bars/braces/bushings available are those JDM ones like Cusco, Carbing, ARC...etc.

If you have an MR, the best first step in my opinion is the Cusco V1 and V2 lower arm bars. I went from an 03 Evo to an 05 Evo MR, and I felt a lose in steering quickness when going to the MR. I regained this steering response and feel by adding the Cusco V1 and V2 bars. I am not sure which is the most responsible for the steering response increase, because I added both at the same time. The next step even before being lowered is an adjustable sway bar. I chose the Hotchkis for the price and lightness of the hollow bar. From there on out, there are many directions that you can go.

My $.02

You mean a strengthened/larger rear sway bar? That would increase oversteer, correct?
