I was reading the link for the spring install.

It states not to use an impact gun to remove the top nut on the strut mount. Do all you guys have that special tool that allows you to remove the nut while holding it with another wrench? Ive changed shocks before on other cars, but ive always used an impact gun to remove the nut. Some expert opinions would be greatly appreciated before i tackle this job.

 

i have done several and i used an impact gun each time with no issues...

 

no impact gun...i remember reading that its NOT good to use them for this job

a spring compressor would be useful

 

A spring compressor is a must, along with the right set of wrenches. I would stay away from using anything that doesn't let you control the amount of force (like an impact gun).

 

while the spring and shock is still installed in the car you just loosen the top nut 1-2 turns. you fully remove it after you compress the springs. but i am no expert. i followed evomoto.com install guide when doing my springs and have no issues. my 2c.

 

Right on point. If you listen the top nut before you remove the strut assembly, it makes things much more easier.

 

So all you guys have that deep socket wrench for the top strut nut?

 

its what i used. if you dont have one, they are about $5 at your local parts store
