these are the ones im considering getting for winter use
-kuhmo asx
-falken ziex
-avon tech 550
-toyo proxes 4

I was thinking about hankook icebears, but it doesnt snow much here and i'm not sure how they will do in all other conditions that winters has, especially rain.

The only all-seasons I have experience with are the Toyo Proxes 4s. I had some 225/40 (maybe 45, can't remember) 17s on my SRT-4. They worked very well. I would concider them again.

Good for the buck? I'm really liking my Bridgestone RE960A/S Pole Positions. ~$165/ea.

ok don't get two all season / winter tires and keep 2 Advans on. thats just silly. Advans suck in the snow even if they are brand new. They are like hockey pucks.
Just get all 4 at the same time.

I have the Kumho ASX's and I'm quite pleased with them. Quite floatly at first but once they break in (~400 miles), they're fine. Grip is good and has a little more sidewall flex so not quite as stiff as stock tires but still pretty solid.

I wouldn't recommend putting only 2 tires on. On AWD vehicles, all 4 tires should be changed. I have the Kumho Ecsta ASX and they work great in the winter.

I think the speed rating is up to 140 mph. When really heavy snow, I usually drove slow but when light or moderate snow, i picked up a little speed. These are by no means anything compared to the blizzaks. With those winter tires, you can pomel through the snow, but with all-seasons you have to be a tad-bit careful.

I also have the ASX's, and they are great tires for when you don't need maximum dry traction. I took them to the track once, and they held up pretty well. When time comes to buy new tires for daily driving, I'll certainly be considering these again.
