Wrong Offset Delivered

In my quest for stock sized wheels for autocross, I thought I had a set of 17x8, +38mm, 5x114.3 Volk LE28Ns on the way. Well, they were delivered today and they were +33 mm, not +38. Should I keep 'em or should I send them back? Is it possible that less offset is a good thing? It would give me a slightly wider track, which would seem like a good thing, but I hate to mess with Mitsubishi's well-tuned geometry without knowing WTF I was doing. I know wtz is essentially running the same offset by having a 5mm spacer on his +38mm SSR Comps (could that have anything to do with his brake problems? seems unlikely, but...)

It probably seems **** worrying about 5mm, but when you pay that much for a set of wheels, you want to get what you ordered...

why did he add spacers?

Not sure what it will drive like...
ask WTZ?

I believe EVO 7 might have had a +29 offset!

so a +38mm with the 5mm spacer is going to end up being the same as just running the 33mm...

the spacers pushed the wheel out far enough for the spokes to clear the calipers... that's the bad thing about having those big 4 pots... you got only so many choices in wheels that will fit without spacers...

I checked the Enkei site and all of their wheels that match the Evo in 17x8 have either a 30 or 35 mm offset so I think 33 is ok and you don't need spacers.

Good news is that the 33mm offset is still within the bounds of stock class rules. You are allowed .25" +/- on the stock offset, or roughly plus or minus 6.35mm. So if they clear, you are good to go.

Stock class requires same size rim diameter and width, only the offset can vary slightly.

Once you jump to street prepared or higher, anything you can get to fit.

Hi,
T2 rules force me to run a 17x8 wheel. SSR makes a 17x8.5 with the correct offset to fit the Evo, but I had to go with the 17x8 38mm offset and run the 5 mm spacer to be legal. This has nothing to do with my brake problems.
Cheers,

Why settle for something that you used your HARD earned money to buy Don't pay for other people mistakes. Be understanding...sure...patient when possible..... but not pay for their mistake Send the rims back!!!

I've decided to keep them. I seriously doubt that I would notice the difference in offset if I tested two sets of wheels back-to-back, but I will tell myself that the extra 10mm of track is good and leave it at that.

Sort of concerned about hitting cones now...I'm sure I was missing them all by less than 5mm before!

you're doing the right thing... either way, if you keep these, or send them back and get ones with the +38mm offset you'll have to add spacers to push them out to where they need to be to clear the brakes...

better to not use spacers if you ask me...

Get some pics posted of those bad boys when you get them on...
