So why do tien s techs kill the struts so fast?

 

I went with SWIFT Springs as well. I just need to install them.

 

I bought swift and man it feels just like stock. swift is not cheap, but I am glad I went with them. rims are 18x8.5

 

Becuase they are too low and too soft.

i have the s techs and yes they are too low and too soft. i just bought some stock springs because i bought my car with the s techs.

 

i had tanabes on my 8 loved them no problems just got my 9 which lower the car more tanabe or swift? planing to run 18 x 9.5 wheels dont want to go to low

 

So, I keep hearing that having aftermarket springs ruins the performance of the suspension and screws up the stock shocks a lot quicker while also making the ride hella bumpy...

Is this really true? Is there any way we can debunk this if it's a myth? Are there any knowledgeable folks on here that can provide honest answers to this? I would personally like to kill this myth once and for all in my own mind if it's not true. Or, if it is true, I'd like to see why it's true.

 

Someone brings up that myth in almost every "Spring" thread on here, and I go crazy and try to explain it away in almost every one.

Do a search and look up some recent spring threads with my posts.


Short answer: A lot of springs that people used to buy were too low and too soft, like Teins, which DID result in crappy handling. But some springs, for example Swifts and Espelirs, are not too low and too soft, but just right. They match the stock EVO dampers well and improve handling.

It's not that black and white. We can say it's more or less luck and how hard the vehicle is driven regarding if or how soon the stock struts give out with aftermarket springs. As to what "ruins the performance of the suspension" it depends on the spring. I don't think there any aftermarket springs that are identical, so while the S-Techs are notorious for being terrible for anything besides giving the car an agressive stance while greatly increasing the chances of blowing your stock struts soon, there are Swift springs specifically designed to work with at least the MR Bilsteins and don't cause them to blow abnormally soon.

+1 Yme...i have the Espelir GT springs on my MR

 

Those are just vents. When you drive your car at high speeds with the front windows open (like you're required to do at many track events) you get a lot of turbulence/cavitation in the back of the car. Those vents help keep the air flowing through the cabin = less turbulence = less noise.

I've been looking for a set myself, but I've never found a supplier.
