255/40r/17 or 245/45r/17?
Hey im shoping around for tires to fit on the stock evo 8 mr bbs wheel. Im going with falken's rt-615. What size do you think i should go with.....255/40r/17....245/45r/17? Thanks guys, by the way im running the stock MR bilsteins w/ tanabe GF210 springs. So from what i read in the tire faq, neither should rub. But im not 100 percent, every ones $0.02 will help!

I've never tried tried 255/40, but I just got the Bridgestone RE960 A/S and it's awesome. Don't you get more comfort with the thicker sidewall (Well that also depends on the stiffness of the sidewall to)? But in general, don't you get a little more comfort with the thicker sidewall?

On the stock wheel, the 255/40 RT-615 will provide no additional traction. In fact, even if you use a Toyo RA-1 you'll get nothing because the tire is TOO WIDE FOR THE RIM. Believe it or not, your stock tire was just about the best you'll find.
If you go to a 17x9, the 255/40 will help, but the RT-615 is not as sticky as your OEM tire, so you will still have less traction than you did stock.
definitely skip the 245/45 ... it will look stupid and the extra diameter will hurt your acceleration.

Hmmmm...very true on the look stupid part. Well when i bought my car it was used and right now shes wearing some yokohama avs es100's. So rt-615 are way better. Plus im kinda new to awd and road racing so i want to learn my car with a less sticky tire befor i push the limits of addhesion. I just want to know if the 255/40r/17 will rub? Cause my car is lowered, with the those tanabe springs.

Alright, I think I did it correctly. The link for the picture is:

The tires are only around a 1/2 inch wider than stock, so it's not like they're anything extreme. I must say though, they do look meatier in person than in the picture. Also, I think the car deffinitely gets more forward traction because my car won't break the tires loose in first unless I try.

Anyway, could you provide a better picture of the tire bulge from the wheel... like a close up side shot of about 30 degrees from the back. You shot from the back doesn't provide much info... it could be a 9" wheel for all we know. Any additional photos would be appreciated mang. I wound up getting another set of 235's because I didn't want a huge bulging tire from the wheel. I couldn't find any good photo's as well.

The RT-615s are the best deal for a daily driving tire. I run the 255/40 during the summer and they perform very well, are 100 dollars less than stock per corner, and last longer than the stock tires.
I'm amazed by people who can tell the difference between the rt's and stock as far as traction. I hope people are noticing this at the track because they both have pretty high limits.
