Brake problem please help!

I have this wierd brake problem, whenever i come to a slow stop my brakes grind, sounds like metal to metal braking and it sounds like its coming from the left front wheel. The wierd thing is it happens every once in a while not everytime. Also as i was pulling into my garage today and turned the wheel all the way to the left it happened even worse.. My car has only 19k miles on it does anyone know what the problem is? Thanks in advance

It might just be the brake dust shield. Reach through the spokes and press that shield back. It's malleable, so you can easily bend it and push it back. After doing that, go for a drive and see if it goes away.

Please don't call me a newb, but check the pads On my other vehicle I ran through pads in less then 20k miles.

Have you bedded the brakes (smoke and flames mandatory if done correctly)? Stock pads? Stock rotors? If yes to all this, remember, American's generally associate brake noise with a problem. Europeans associate brake noise with a high performance car/braking system. Who ever said brakes were supposed to be quite? Performance vehicles have high friction brakes (pads) that make noise. Generally the time you hear it most is when you’re going very slowly and the grinding isn't masked by other car noises. Bedding can also make a huge difference. Generally pad grinding on metal makes more noise than pad grinding on pad.

By the way, hopper is right on. 20,000 miles is a lot for Evo brakes (the way I drive at least). I've gone through an entire set of Ferodo DS3000 race pads in one day of running at Road America. This isn't a fair comparison as "race" pads are much more aggressive and wear much faster than street pads. With my "street" set up (DS2500's up front), I've gone through 3 sets and the cars just broke 12,000 miles.
