when do you get new tires?

I'm wondering when you guys actually put on new tires. I have 11k on my stock tires, am down to the wearbars all accross on at least 3, with the inside 1/5th or so being completely bald. I can see a fair amount of the secondary rubber that's under the normal tread rubber, and a hair of the chords on the inside of the driver-side front.

I have set of new tires, but am still kind of enjoying thrashing these old ones, especially in the wet (slides nice and easy, without having to go so fast).

Do you guys totally chord your tires before replacing? or do you use the "penny rule?"

just curious.

You don't drive in the rain much, do you? If you did, you'd know it was time.

I wore my first set of AO-46s to the chords. The second set I wore through the chords to the steel belts and the side walls started to de-ply and tear away from the horizontal surface. Then I parked it for a week till my RT-615s came in.

I do not recommend doing this.

lol at all the haters.

There seem to be 2 camps: the "chorders" and the "I learned in driving school that..."

I drive in the rain plenty. on the highway in the rain I am the slowest guy on the road (55-60). on the deserted cloverleaf I am a line practicing fool, driving at the edge of traction without going very fast.

My tires have more tread than the pic of the first one, plus the advan wears differently (wear on the outsides more than the insides, even at 36 psi). The second pic (the one on the BMW rim) looks like the remnant from a burnout contest. can't imagine someone drove on that...

anyway, I'll probably be mouting the new tires in a week or two.
