Cold weather = struts make noise?

2006 Evo, 14k miles on it...I replaced the stock setup with coilovers at roughly 6k miles and rode on the coilovers for maybe 4-5k miles and now I put my stock struts + swift springs in the car for roughly 4k miles...

At first they made no noise whatsoever...but when the 10* and below weather came around they would make a popping/clapping sound when I hit bumps, just the back set.

So I figured maybe the strut top bolt became loose, today since it was up in the 40's I decided to go hit it with the impact but on my way home from work they didn't make a peep...anyone have any ideas? I thought it might be the rubber spring perch but its a clapping sound, so maybe the spring isn't seated properly? But why was it quiet for so long, made noises and then magically went away?

me too. big temp changes cause the struts to make noises occasionally. but i can live with it. mitsubishi's aren't perfect but they they win the race. and thats why I get to say winner winner chicken dinner.

Mine keep doing the same thing kept hearing a noise coming from the right front then it seemed like it was the passenger rear. I am gonna check it out on a lift, but I hope its just because its been so cold, maybe there is snow jammed up there somewhere.

Yeah its weird, I could understand squeeking sounds but this sounded like its loose...so I drove around some more and no sounds. I hit them with the impact anyway, this morning they still made no noises but its still warmer out...oh well, as long as its nothing serious.

Yeah the suspension on the EVO makes squeeking and popping noises when the temperature gets colder. I would assume it happens because all the rubber parts harden with the colder temps and all the metal parts shrink a little bit. The oil in the shock become thicker and the pressure drops a little bit making for some pretty interesting dynamics.
