Hey guys,

My Evo IX has almost 15k miles on it and the inside strip of each of the Yokohama tires are bald or almost bald. The fronts are the worse, as the inside tread is pretty much flat. The rear still has some inside tread left, but its significantly less than the middle of the tire. The suspension is stock. Is this a normal issue with Evo IX's? Or is this problem from the factory that I can get warrantied for?

If I can't get it warrantied or re-aligned for free, should I just rotate the tires and re-align at a shop? Thanks.

Theres some talk about yokohama replacing worn advans on the newbie forums https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...tory+alignment

the advans typically only last somewhere in the neighborhood of 15k anyways so you are probably at the end of their natural lifetime.

I suggest you buy new tires and have your car aligned.

But is the wear problem on the tires normal? Besides the inside of the tires, the outsides and middle still have a good chunk of tread left.

i had the exact same problem. i rotated the tires too, and at 15k the inside on all 4 are all gone.

factory alignments are sometimes off on Evo's, esp. the toe setting. e.g. proper front toe should be from -0.08 to +0.08 (iirc), my stock toe was -0.39.....

get it re-aligned asap, at a tire shop or whatever, to factory specs. if ur toe is within specs ur treadwear will be even.

at this point u'll have to get new tires.

or, take it to a tire shop and see how worn ur insides are and see if it's worth it to flip the stock tires...(inside of the tire goes to outside of the tire). i flipped mine but only got 3000 miles more outta the tires before one popped on me.

This problem is normal and pretty well known round the boards. When I went in to have my tires swapped for the winter snow they asked me if I drove hard because the insides were worn down extra. That was when I found out the alignment from the factory was poop.

Well known issue. Get the car aligned with the new tires on. Have them set the front and rear to zero toe. This will give much better wear and actually improve the handling.

Camber should be -1.5 upfront and -1 in rear.

Try it !!!

there are lots of threads for what tires to use...here are some choices

Falken Azenis RT-615 in 245/45/17 or 255/40/17
Yokohama ES100 in 245/45/17
Toyo proxes T1S in 235/45/7 or 245/45/17
Kumho 712 245/45/17
Falken FK452 in 245/45/17 or 255/40/17

For street use the Falken FK452 or Yokohamas will work well and give longer service life. For the occasional autox get the Falken RT 615 in 255/40/17

All will fit w/o issues.

The stock tire being so stiff provides superior handling but it also causes the inside of the tire to wear with the Evo's negative camber. The only way to get the last bit of wear out of the Advans is to have them flipped inside out on the rims.

Almost any other tire is less stiff and won't have this problem.

My car came from the factory with zero toe and I still experienced this wear pattern.

Well, I'm looking at the toe measured on your vehicle and it is very close to zero.

My IX has 200 miles on it and alignment was off. Same on m previous Evo VIII. I will recommend to re-align right away for everybody who bought new IX.

Just another good reason to make the dealer check the alignment and show you the specs before and after. Before you pick the car up for the first time.

Afterall they arent going to warranty the tires after you drive it for 500 miles and they say sorry you must have raced it.
