Hawks HP+ vs Hawks HPS

For those of you who use Hawks HPS before, how you like it compare to HP+? in terms of dust, noise, rotor friendly.

HP+ are going to be a bit more aggressive. Dust, noise and rotor friendly is about the same -- I mean, if you beat the snot out of your car on a daily basis you are going to have more wear.

It all boils down to with what you want to do with the car -- if you autox your car regularly I would go for the HP+. If you do it once in awhile, go for the HPS. If you track your car -- i'd go with a completely different pad

Thats interesting. I know folks who track a great deal who seem to like the HP+'s.

You don't really mention performance, so if you're only interested in those three areas, go with the HPS. HP+ just takes it all up a notch, with the trade-off being noticeably better performance. HP+'s were especially noisy on my Evo compared to the HPS pads...sounded like a freakin' train stopping.

I had the HPS pads on my VIII (when I had it). IMHO, if you track your car at all, even the occasional HPDE I would get the HP+. When I did one event with the HPS pads I was NOT impressed at how they felt or grabbed once they got a little bit hot. I could stand on the brake pedal at the end of the straight and they just would not grab like I thought they should.

When I got my IX I tried the Ferodo DS2500s (approx equivalent to the HP+) and I have been very happy with how well they stop and hold up at the track. My friend was even noticed the difference riding as a passenger at how well they grabbed and pulled the car to a stop.

So to summarize... if you track the car at all, go with the HP+ (or maybe the Ferodo DS2500s).

I've run both. The HPS is a very good street pad, no squeaking at all if you install them correctly, but will be completely overwhelmed on a track. I tracked HPS pads with all season tires on my (at that time) slightly modded Evo, and got bad brake fade several times during my sessions. The HP+ is noisier on the street and will hold up a little bit better on the track. I still get it to fade during HPDE use, though to be fair, my car now makes a wee bit more power also... I will retain the HP+ pad for probably one more track day and then I will be switching to PF 01 or PF 97 pads for track days and HPS for street use.

i had completely heat soaked my hp+'s and the pad material was coming off onto the rotor after two lapping sessions at the track. proper bedding had been done and the slotted rotors had just been cut.

on the street the initial grab is great and they work really well however the noise is horrid (most of the time)

i now run ht10s with stoptechs and im very satisfied (for track events only)

hps is a decent street pad

I recently installed the Hawk HPS and they seem to be ok. I do notice a difference in stopping ability. Its not has great as the stock pads. No noise, minimal dust and for the price not a bad pad. I dont do any track stuff so not sure about heavy braking.

well mine squeal a little bit sometimes, and that is because I forgot to lube the side of the pads that rest on the caliper and also the side against the pistons... I hope once i get around to re lubing all four corner the squeaking will go.

I am running HPS - and I was thinking of just swapping the front pads at the autocross track (fronts only) - any thoughts?

This is a good suggestion. That or Pagids.

I used the HP+ and was not happy on the track. They have good stopping power, but fade heavily after not very many hot laps even with a brake cooling kit on the stock rotors. This was in HPDE conditions. HPS will only last a lap or two on a decent size track before massive fade.

On the street, the HP+ was noisy and dusty, but great stopping power

I hear that the HPS is good in general, but if you are gonna autox, you should definitely change to the HP+. How are the HPS for you? I mean, if everything was proper, are there a lot of noise/dust?

I have Project Mu's right now, and they squeal like there is no tomorrow and dust is a MAJOR issue, plus these things are eating up brand new PowerSlot rotors...

UGH! I need to change!!!

I had HP+ on my STi and they where noisey as hell. I turned heads everytime I stopped. Would not recommend them for daily driving due to the noise. On a good note - I had to track days on them at Streets of Willow and they worked great.

HPS are suppose to be really good for daily driving and some canyon runs. I have not heard anything bad about those.
