modified brake ducts

So I'm getting ready for a track day in pahrump (SMMP), but after reading the numerous issues with overheated front brakes I decided to fab-up my own solution (hopefully) to this problem.

Being an avid autocrosser I have run into boiling fluid and blued rotors.. Changed the fluid to motul 600. Haven't run an AX with the new fluid yet.

I've charged around SMMP on a few occasions in my STi's only to get about a lap and half before running into brake temp issues. I haven't had my EVO out on a road course yet and hopefully after this home-grown mod I'll be able to get multiple laps at speed.

Back on topic:

The main idea was to channel more air towards the brakes and the mitsu brake cooling airguides. I have (free *wink *wink) access to all the hardware and materials and thought I'd give it a try.

I utilized the channels molded into the factory undertray, made aluminum mounting rails, and made teflon covers for the channels. I also hacked away the "zero-lift" front skirt in the places that the skirt was blocking the channels.

I used teflon sheet thinking it will take more abuse to road rash etc.. than aluminum or composites.

I probably went a little overboard with the hardware, oh-well

The mitsu air guides will also be modded (once springs are intalled) in order to capture more of the air and guide it straighter into the rotor opening

The passenger side still needs to be shimmed to match drivers side (woopsie on measuring / bending)

here's a few pics:

How fast have you gone with those already? I'm thinking anything over a 100MPH will rip your whole under tray off.

Good idea though, just wondering if it will hold up at high speeds.

posting this in the motorsport section would yeild you more experienced feedback....

the only problem with your setup is that you are not forcing air to the center of the rotor... I'm sure what you have done will probably help a little, but not to the effect of the Forge or AMS brake duct kits.

Glad to see another hot lapper in Vegas.... you going to PCA or racers wanted track day?

I'm a little worried as well. I've gone 80 or so and there is no noticeable wind noise or flutter that I can tell. I'm definately not gonna push it until I'm on a desolate road out in the middle of the desert (with assistance standing by).

I'm thinking it may be appropriate to replace half or more of the undertray clips with real hardware.

PCA

I'm also modding the airguides (not intalled in the pics)

Nills, you think I should also take off the brake dust shields?

My only suggestion would be to add a divider going down the middle of the channel, much like the stock air scoop thing for the airbox.

Looks great! I have the Mitsu air guides also and was debating whether or not I wanted to take off the dust shields.
