RE: Hawk HP+ pads for the Evo VIII

Hawk does not make anything for the VIII yet. I found this out after buying a set of front/rear pads from Tirerack. The pads they supplied are too thick to work on the VIII, and on my car they made it feel like I had the emergency brakes on constantly. The Evo uses pads that are over 1/16" thinner than the pads listed for the Brembo caliper on the car. I tried turning the rotors, still no better. Spoke to Tirerack, and Hawk, will be returning the pads and getting a refund for shipping, install, etc. Just a heads up if anyone tries to sell you Hawk pads.

^^ The street ones are too narrow!

Madmatt... why don't you pick a evolutionm.net member and send them a set as a promotion. Thats a good way to get the word out... I For one would post pics of the carbotech installation/pads and some 100-0 (km/h) Gtech times for comparison.

I don't why I need to do that. Did Hawk, PFC, or Ferrodo do that? No. Hell Hawk doesn't even have the correct pad for the Evo, but that doesn't seem to stop some of you from buying and trying the wrong size pad....

If you want low dust, low noise, rotor friendly cutting-edge ceramic high-performance street pads, that are CORRECT FOR YOUR CAR, let me know....

Well... I bought these pads about 3 weeks ago, so I had never heard of Carbotech. Besides, I do not need street pads, I need street/race pads for autocross solo I and II use.

MaddMatt -

I'm there man, will do the Bobcats for the street and Panther XPs for track days. Still in the middle of some other mods though and brakes have not yet made it to the top of the list. When they do, I will definitely call you!

I've used Carbotech pads for a while. Larry is a great talker who'll run up your phone bill if you're not careful.

Matt, you guys have any pads that are comparable to the initial bite of the Mean Green compound, but that does not dust or groan as much? I've used your super street -F compound (aka, HP+) before with great results. Is there a comparable model?

Also, you guys still giving that racer/frequent customer discount?

thnx

I used Matt's panther plus pads on my S2000 and they stood up to the heat much better than the EBCs (fronts cracked).

Matt - you guys should offer an Evom.net discount like you did for us S2000 guys.

Our new Bobcat street pad is very comparable.

As for the discount, we'll think about it. But I know already that we're way cheaper than the competition, such as Porterfield, PFC, Ferrodo. (I do not consider EBC competition, BTW. I know they're cheap. Cheap in every way).

I got suckered into some kind of SBC blue pads from Wes at the tire rack.......

the pads were way too thick to fit in, so I just ground them down with my belt sander..... i skipped the backing plates too.....

Hindsight I would never have gotten these things.... they are really not any better than the stock pads on the track.... I wanted something more like Panther Plus's or Porterfield R4's (or whatever they are).

On the track mine sucked..... no better than stock in my opinion.
