Using a spacer (or different wheel offset, or both) will change the scrub radius in the front, as far as I know the rear axles aren't subject to scrub radius since they don't steer. From what I can tell, the upshot is that you're gonna change the scrub radius with just about every change you make to the front suspension: wheel offset, ride height, camber, etc. and everything comes with its own set of tradeoffs. I'd say that front spacers alone aren't gonna make a night and day difference with the handling of the car, they will do *something*, but how much it changes the feel is subjective.

This summary seems decent, it's from the Evo X forums but the concepts are the same.

What is the max thickness spacer you can run without having to install longer wheel studs?

Doesnt take much. You buy a 5mm spacer from H&R & it comes w/longer studs. So really any spacer will require the longer studs

Hmm I'd rather stick to proper wheel width and offsets without spacers. Currently running 9jj et35 which I feel works very well with almost similar scrub as stock, just does not give as nice fitment as lower offsets. Spacers to me sounds like unnecessary parts.

I am looking at purchasing a set of Rota Grid in 18 x 9.5, ET 38
I already have tyres Pzero tyres in 255/35/18.

Currently have Enkei RC T4 in 18 x 9J, ET35.

Will there be any issues in changing to the Rota Grid with the width being wider ? Rear fenders are rolled already but not sure about the space and clearance on the inside to the shock.

did you use spacers on the front due to brake clearance issues ?

I run the same wheel but in 17" (P45R 17x9.5 +30). No spacer required

Thanks, I'm going to place an order soon for Rota Grids in 18x9.5j, +30.

I was concerned about clearance issues especially at the rear.

Oh yeah, the rears will certainly need the full work to fit those depending on tire size

Rear fenders are already rolled.
what other work would need to be done to fit them ?

Using 255/35 tires.

Heres a comparison between what i run & your proposal. Its hard to say for sure, but i think you will be needing a very tight rear roll & possilbe bumper bolt re-location. (hopefully you wont need a rear pull)

My setup required all the tricks to fully clear. Now if youre OK w/some rub then raising the ride height & over -2 degrees of camber could do it. For me, rub can not be accepted at all

Good post noting the wheel & tire size, suspension & rear fender treatment. Looks real nice & that wheel & tire spec is certainly on the aggressive side. Have you thought about a set of springs? You may need some additional rear fender work if the ride height is lowered?

If I make any changes it will be switching over to Bilsteins like the Evo MR. Other than that I don't plan on doing anything else to the suspension.

I added some close up pics to show the offset a little better.
