Weird suspension problem (seized strut?)

My buddy has an 2005 evo 8 with the gf210 hotchkis springs with stock struts.

Today he hit a major pot hole on the front right tire and ever since has heard a popping sound when he goes over a bump.

We took the rim/tire off today and looked over everything. Everything seemed fine so we put the car back down and the strut stayed what looked to be completly down. So the car had a good 8-10 inches of wheel gap...

So we are thinking a blown strut/defective strut. Although the strut is not leaking any oil, and the nuts on top of the strut tower.

Anybody have any experience with this or any inut?

Thanks guys!

He might've bent the shock rod so that it isn't going in all the way.

I blew a strut on a DSM by backing into a post - only hit the tire. It made noise over any bump until I replaced the strut.

It looks like a bent rod most likely.
Try to put a jack underneath the strut and see if it compresses back.
