Bridgestone RE-01R
You should try the Goodyear F1 GS-D3's, they have a much stiffer sidewall and handle great in the dry(way better than the stock "yoko's") and are incredible in the wet. Their load rating is higher, as is their speed rating.
I've been running 255/35/18's, but am looking at going up to 265/35/18's, just not sure how they'll do on an 8.5 wheel.

First hand experience on the road, road course (Moroso, used as rain tires) and on "The Dragon,129 Deals gap" chasing sport bikes. The 255/35/18's are rated XL (Extra Load bearing capability) and have a much stiffer sidewall, in addition, I asked the people @ the tire rack about the differences between the tires.
I talked with Robert Fuller of ROBISPEC, he highly recommended the RE-01R over the F1, my only hesitation is they don't make it in a 255/35/18, I would have to go with a 245/40/18, but from what he said, it should be worth the 3/4" gain in height & 5/8" less in width. So it looks like I'm going to try out the RE-01R.

Tires have very little noise and stick very well.
Ditto on the noise, thats the first thing I noticed after mounting them. I am really impressed by how the RE-01R performs and they will be my street tire of choice for a long time to come. Please report back on how they perform in the wet compared to the eagle f1's
These now come in 235/45/17 factory evo size...no surprise that they are the most expensive 17" @ 188$ apiece!! also they are on back order due aroung August 1st.....think i'm gonna bite the bullet and get a set...review forthcoming

188 $ is expencive? Try $247 for the stock Advans!
Tirerack has both the 245 & 235 40/18's in stock, I just ordered some on Saturday. I was going to go with the 235/40/18's but I'm thinking they'll look too skinny, but they're only $211 ea, compared to $226 fore the 245/40/18's, we'll see. I've been running my Nito NT01's on the street for the past few days, talk about fun!

The reason I hate them is the mushy sidewalls. They destroyed the lightning responsive feel that I loved so much. My buddy has them on his M3 and calls them Goodyear "NOVOCAINES". I swear the car has more body roll, too.
They do ride cushy and quiet, though.
Bought the F1s brand new. I usually run 35F/32R.
I was astonished at the difference in ride (better) and responsiveness (more sluggish). The F1s aren't even as stiff as my Yokohama AVS winter tires.
Added note: My comments pertain to tires in the stock size. I cannot comment on how 18" might behave.
I want to emphasize this again: Unless you are really unhappy with the ride and noise of your A046, I would NOT recommend the F1's. I saw the review in Car and Driver which recommended the F1's and was seduced by the low price, but it turned out to be a mistake (for me). On the other hand, if you don't care about losing precision and response, but still want traction and a smooth ride, they might be just what you want.
From the comments here, it sounds like the Bridgestones might be a better bet. If someone of Robi's caliber is suggesting them, they seem more worthy of a look.
