Squeaky Brakes!!

Hey guys,

I installed 2 pc slotted rotors and HP+ Pads on my car 2 days ago and went into the highway and did the bedding and cooling down needed, I did everything as instructed by a StopTech rep...but my brakes are squeaking BAD, like metal against metal..and its LOUD, it makes everyone stare at me as I'm stopping for a red light. I doesnt squeak when Im braking at higher speeds...but as the car slows down to around 20-10mph and getting ready to stop my brakes squeak like crazy, its a horrible sound. I've tried searching around and all of that but I'm not sure I have found the right answers, if you guys could help me out that'd be great. Thanks in advance!

Did you reuse the shims that are glued to the back of the stock pads? If not, then you'd better find some.

and you need a good amount of high-temp grease on the shims too

Welcome to the wonderful world of Hawk brake pads...
I have the HPS, I used BG stop squeal, bedded them correctly, and they still make a lot of noise. It's just the price we have to pay... It will subside some, but they will always make noise, no matter how many times you bed them.

i have no problem with a bit of noise...but is drilling through your ear painful squealing normal with these pads?

all higher performance break pads are going to squeek at low speeds. Even the stock pads on the EVO sometimes squeek. So the break pads arent bad.

yea I got my Hawk HPS Perfomance pads, they squeaked in the beginning, so I thought it was normal since they were still gettting used to the rotors.. its been a month already and they are still squeaking so Im assuming its normal since theyre High Perfomance pads.

id be fine if they were just squeaking...they are abnormally squeaking like anything Ive ever heard before...like a loud SQUEALing sound ... btw, I have the HP+ and not the HPS...so that might be the reason for this...Im gonna put more grease on the front pads since it seems to be the place where most of the noise is coming from...I put a generous amount in the rear pads and they dont squeal...but when I got to the front I didnt have as much grease left.

DO NOT PUT ANYTHING ON THE FACE OF THE PADS!!! this is just a trait of the HP+ pads. read, read, read, and search some more and you will find that this is common. it is a trade off for performance at higher speeds.

Just deal with it....once you drive your car hard and see how well they perform you will have econd thoughts about replacing the pads.

If you guys are looking for just a quiet, dust free, OEM replacement pad, try the Stoptech/Centric Parts Posiquiet ceramic pads. Very quiet, very dust free, and only 100 bucks shipped for a front and rear set. Performance is about the same as stock, which is pretty close to Hawk HPS. Not quite as good as Hawk HP+ though.

I personally have never had an issue with Hawk HPS making noise and i run them on my own car, but it seems everyone else in the world has.
