Brake Clearance Question

I've got an Evo IV, and I'm upgrading to Evo VIII Brembo brakes. There's been a lot of discussion on other boards that there are not many wheels that will clear the Brembos and fit inside the stock wheel wells of the Evo IV.

A perfect fit for an Evo IV seems to be a 7.5" wide wheel at ~38 offset. So if I got something with a slightly higher offset to push the wheel into the fender more, and then got a 10mm or so spacer to push it back out and away from the brakes, would that work?

I'm still kinda a noob to this wheel stuff, and it makes sense to me that this would work, but I'm just not 100% positive.

I'd appreciate any help!

If you want the look of good brakes there are many kits sold in Japan that will fit under the stock 16s.

If you want the car to stop get good blanks and pads and the car will have all the stopping power you need. Going to 17s will limit your rubber that will fit without rubbing and you will have to get the fenders rolled.

Well I was going to go to 17's anyways.

It's not about the look of good brakes, it's about the performance, everyone who has done the upgrade has said it made a significant difference. Yeah, they will look better too, but that's not what it's all about. I'm not a big fan of the stock IV wheels anyways.

Is it really performance if you've never pushed the stock brakes to the limit? I had the upgrade on my IV and I will tell you that you can get the same results from good pads, rotors, lines and fluid. Anyone that knows anything about brakes knows this.

But if you just have to have 17s I wouldn't go with anything wider than 7-7.5 Also check this thread on MLR http://www.lancerregister.com/showth...5&pagenumber=1
