I'm a new guy here looking to buy an Evo and I have a question regarding Mitsubishi's brakes systems.

The 06 RS does not have ABS and the IX, SE and MR do have ABS right?

I was a little confused since the Mistubishi website seems to have conflicting info depending on which part of the site I used to reference the RS's features/specs.

Any thoughts on driving without ABS?

Correct the RS is the only factory model without ABS.

I grew up without ABS. Got to learn the true meaning of threshold braking. Havent tracked without ABS, so I cannot speak to how the Evo reacts without it.

 

i wouldnt be caught without it...

The RS is the only one without ABS. ABS is an excellent feature for both street and track IMO...

I too learned to drive without ABS but ABS has kept me out of accidents on more than one occasion. Think I'll be looking at a IX or MR.

Sorry to bump such an old thread but I thought it may be the most appropriate place to ask.

I understand the VIII RS does not have ABS and it is not easily retrofittable. Does the IX RS have ABS?

Although I have threshold braking experience, ABS is definitely an asset - race tires are expensive!

Perhaps I'm misreading but the first post states:

I'm totally new to the Evo world but I believe the 06 IS an IX, so I'm trying to figure out if he wrote that wrong and was confirming the 05 RS (VIII) did not have ABS and asking if ALL IX models had ABS or if it is like the VIII which sports ABS on everything but the RS.

I dont think I'm insane but it is late at night so bear with me...

I apologize. I had the daggers out on that that one. All usdm RS models VIII and IX, 04-06, do not have ABS. I think you confusing the 06 RS and IX as being different. There is a IX RS and a IX GSR/se/mr(All the same as braking goes), the latter having ABS.
