17s vs 18s

what do you run and why? i currently run 18x9 but was thinking about going to a 17. seems like there are more tires to choose from in 17 and plus i drag the car to that might be a little benifical to me.

I love 17s. The most tire selection, lower cost, less unsprung weight, quick acceleration, there are many reasons to choose 17s. I would love 18s, but I honestly don't need them and would only get them to run 285/30/18 f, because that is the competitve standard in SM.

I run 18's for looks. Volks- so they are lighter weight. best of both worlds. I bet my drag times would be better w/ the stockers though...

What he said. Smaller diameter wheels are simply lighter, and take less to turn. They are the way to go for people who want to use their cars for sport as opposed for looks.

I'm probably going to be upgrading from the BBS 17 x 8 to an Advan RGII 17 x 9 here soon. Wider tire, more grip, same weight, and comparable strength as the original wheel. But best of all--EASIER TO MAINTAIN AND CLEAN.

When I get wheels I'm getting 17's due to cheaper tires, cheaper wheels, and better tire selection. !8's look good, but it's not like 17's DON'T look good.

EDIT: I stand corrected, thanks.

18" is the standard not just for SM Evos, but many road race cars as well. If the cars are producing a lot of power and are running a longer course, the 18" are not much of a disadvantage, since lower gear acceleration is less of an issue. If you never go below 60mph, 18" might be ok. There are even Evos running low 10s in the 1/4 mile on 18s. But once again, unless I were competing in SM (or ESP for that matter), or road racing with significantly more power, I just don't need them, 17's serve the purpose just fine.

Nice choice.
I have been thinking of going back to 17s also.
Considering the fact that my car is DD, I'm not sure degradation in ride is worth the looks.
I'm considering Advan RS.
Here's my inspiration.

17" are perfect for Evos. Just make sure you get them wide, and lower the car

How do you figure that?
