Stock Rims - Tire Sizes
What tire sizes will fit the stock Evo IX rims? I'm probably getting the 255/40 R17 Falken RT-615 but I want to know if they're going to do any major/minor rubbing.

Falken RT615s have a stiff sidewall so running 255/40/17 on the STOCK wheels is no problem at all I've had 2 sets on my stockers and seen many with them on their stockers with that size. No rubbing on stock suspension and with a minor drop with springs. Stock tire size btw is 235/45/17.

Tons of us run 255s on the stock rims. 5 seconds of searching would show that and answer your question 100 times over.
It is not the ideal width, but it works well. A 245 width would be better, but unfortunately, 245/40s and 245/45s don't have proper diameters, so we go with the 255/40s, which are closest to stock in terms of diameter while providing additional ground patch.

I run 245/45R17 Bridgestone RE-01R on my stock rims and they fit great. The extra 10mm of tread width helps with handling and offers a bit more rim protection. The RE-01R also has ridiculously thick sidewalls so there is no issue with sidewall flex.
245/45 is only 0.3 inches taller in diameter vs the stock size 235/45, that difference is negligible in my opinion. According to the Miata calculator, when the speedo reads 60mph I'm actually going 60.8mph which is very minor.

where the 255 40 17 theres a 58.3 actual speed compared to 60 on the speedo... i dont see the advantage of running a 255 over a 245 other than more tire
i was just asking for clarity from warrtalon but u guys are so nice thanks for the help

Regardless, though, the RE-01R is much better than the RT-615 no matter what size you get.

59.3, not 58.3, plus that helps your gearing. A 245/45 hurts it. That's why we do the 255/40, not because of the extra 10mm. You don't get an advantage from that 10mm due to the rim only being 8". On 8.5 or 9", though, it's better in terms of gearing AND contact patch.
