Frozen calipers?

I hadn't driven my evo for about 3 days. Obviously some minor surface rust had built up on the rotors. When I went to drive it this morning, it felt like the car had been welded to the ground! I had to give it a good amount of gas to pull away and it made a pretty audibly snapping sound when it moved. (yes my ebrake was down). I tapped the brakes a couple times to knock the rust off, and it seemed ok. I drove for a little bit and pulled over to look at the rotors. The fronts seemed fine, but the rears still had a good amount of oxidation on them. wtf? I felt the rotors and they were warm so obviously, contact is being made and the car seems to stop normally, but why the heck is there still rust on the rear calipers? I drove for several miles more and I really nailed the brakes a few times. Still rust! I have never seen this happen to any car I've owned. A little more info... I changed the rear pads with project Mu pads. They have a LOT of life left and they haven't given me any problems since I installed them. (about 4000 miles ago.) I didn't have the rotors resurfaced. It doesn't feel like the calipers are frozen, but what the heck?

This happens to me all the time in the winter when it gets below 0. During the summer i'm fine though. I usually do not use ebrake and just leave the car in 1st. I don't know if it's ok or not but it does the same to me.

So after driving for a while, you still have oxidation on your rear rotors?

The other thing I should mention is that I listened for noises while I was cruising and nothing. I also did not feel as if the car was being held back by the brakes when I was accelerating. It's just weird. Why would the front rotors look clean and the rears still be nasty? Is it because the fronts clamp harder?

it's your rear calipers sticking to the rotors when they dry. If you just park it in gear without the parking brake engaged then it won't "clunk" anymore.

When I leave my car outside at work for 9 hours a time in sub zero temperatures, it does it every time.

i wouldn't doubt if this is just the e-brake shoes being in the spread position holding ur car over-night and then when u release it from inside the car, the shoes are still engaged because the springs ar partially frozen. Once moved it will make a clunk (the shoes releaseing) then you will be fine. No worries. try puttin it in gear instead of using e-brake if u want to test my theory
