Frozen Brakes

Has anyone had a problem when it snows or gets cold i think my brake pads are freezing to the rotor or the calipers are not releasing? I drop the E-brake and its like its still engaged. Has anything like this happened to anyone else?

Hi

Hello,

Its happened on my 98 gs-t. The e brake cable was kinked on the underside and on cold weather it would stick to the bracket holding the cable so the e-brake would not disengage. Solution? Keep it in gear and not use the e-brake or find a way to fix that line.

Hope this helps.

Try this

The way I found out was: I left it over night on a cold night. Then I tried to get the car moving while someone was looking at the car from the outside looking around at what wheel wasn't moving. The person told me the right rear wasn't moving but the other rear one was. Then, I looked on the underside of the car on a warmer day and noticed a major kink on the brake line going to the problematic wheel.

... on temps both the air and the rotors plus humidity makes a big difference. If you park the car with the brakes hot they will get condensation on the rotors as they cool.

My car does it all the time, I just put some pressure on the pedal and drive on it for a bit and it breaks loose. Just moving my car in the early morning, especially after last nights storm was like launching...

Every car I have ever owned with Disk rear brakes has had this problem... The solution is just not to use the parking brakes on snowy or really cold nights... It was 22 degrees here last night, and that kinda cold makes parts stiff... Cables get stiff, fluids get a little thicker, etc... Its just part of having a cold winter...
