Unhappy wheel weight fell off

Recently curbed my passenger side rear wheel but only a small rash . Unfortunately, the wheel weight has fallen off because thats the part that hit the curb. Can I get one and just hammer it on myself? Its the small weight that clamps on the rim lip and not the large one. Is it ok to drive the car without the weight for a few days until I get it fixed?

I'd have to check and see if we sell/carry the clip on weights as 90% of what we have are stick on. You could hammer one on yourself, but chances of you getting it placed in the exact same spot may be tough. Would be best to have it re-balanced at a local shop. Not a bad idea to do anyway if you haven't had it done lately.

Actually I could still see the mark where the weight was placed. I'm considering stick on weights too but then would the other three tires need stick on weights as well?

Not necessarily but it won't be exact to the other three either. If a shop was rebal all of them and ran out of clip on's and had to do one wheel stick they could make it work cause of the machinery. But placing it by hand w/out an exact idea for to put it wont provide a true balance.

Typically stick on weights are designed to be used inside the wheel not outside like a clip-on. The difference in weight location *inside barrel vs. outside lip* would be enough that I would want a shop to do it.

Go to a local tire shop and get it done right, it will probably cost you $5-10 and take about 15 mins. You aren't going to be able to get the replacement weight in the exact same location and I'm also doubting you know what size weight was on there to begin with. Also, after curbing a wheel, its a good idea to get it rebalanced in case it got bent (this will be noticed during balancing).

When you put weights on a wheel to balance it, it balances the wheel in two planes, which means it tries to get the center of mass on the axis of the wheel and make sure that the mass distribution is such that there is no force vector laterally through the wheel as it rotates. I could draw pictures, but it would take way too much time and you probably won't care what they show. Just go get it rebalanced by a shop.
