Whooo Hoooo I fixed my clunky front end this morning. Here is what I did.
1. I took the caps off both front shock towers and packet them with grease.
2. Jacked up the car and sprayed both strut pistons with silicone spray.
3. Sprayed all suspension conection bolts and the springs at the top and bottom plates with wd-40.

Not sure which one did the trick but the front end is quite as a church mouse now. Very strange because it was a pretty loud clunking??? Thought it had to be something mechanical. Mine would come and go for a while too, but now it was getting worse. $1.99 for a can of grease. Dealer quoted $475 for new strut and install. I stopped by the dealer today to order something else and explained to him how I fixed it. You should have seen his face. Priceless. He told me they spent hours trying to diagnose and I fixed it in 5 min. I'm gonna send them a can of WD-40 for christmas... I hope they were trying to rip me off. Rather be a thief than an idiot. Hope this helps someone else...

My clunking is gone!

The new bushes got rid of all of it. I had the same symptoms as everyone here is reporting, but now it is silent, smooth, and more direct steering. The old ones appeared fine from the outside and without looking further into it I never would have found they were the problem. You cant just lift the car and try to shake the wheel. I needed to unbolt the front bush from the lower control arm to find it, and if I never did that would never know. Something for you to do on a spare weekend.
