255s will fit, yes. I am not aware of any 255/45s, but I wouldn't recommend them due to being much taller than stock.

warrtalon, I signed up here years ago and remember hearing mention of your name a lot over the years, both good and bad. Regardless, you always seemed to know what you were talking about. Can you offer some feedback to my previous post? These would be for a street driven car, doing somewhat spirited driving.

Your question is very broad, and there is honestly a ton of info in this very forum that you need to go through in order to make your decision. I have a street driven Evo that I drive spiritedly, but I also drag, road race, and autox it. I use different tires for different scenarios, but for the majority of my daily driving (good weather), I prefer extreme summer tires like the stockers. The tires in this category that I would recommend:
  • Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Spec
  • Dunlop Direzza Z1
  • Bridgestone RE-01R
  • Falken RT-615 (inferior to the above two)
If you want Ultra series tires that are below Extreme, then I can't really help. However, regardless of the tire you choose, here are the sizes in order of preference for you (imo):
  • 235/45-17 (stock size)
  • 255/40-17 (closest to stock diameter and fits on stock rim)
  • 245/40-17 (shorter than stock tire, but close)
  • 245/45-17 (taller than stock tire and chance of rubbing)
so 255/40's are straight for the stock rims. im def. getting a set of those next time i didnt know you could go so wide on the stock rim.
Yes, they will fit, but although you get a much wider tire, you don't use the entire contact patch. 245s are really the largest width that the stock rim can effectively use. The 255 doesn't hurt at all, but don't expect to get more performance over a 245.
