Lowering springs pros cons???

I have an 03 Evo and was thinking about buying lowering springs. Can they hurt your car in any way? What are the pros and cons and are they worth it if you are not planning to do much else for handling??

I bought some springs from Works. They lowred the car about an 1". I have no problems with any rubbing and it did not affect the negatively. It is a little stiffer, but I can live with it. I know there are springs out there to make it even lower, but from what I heard, it starts to affect the handling to much.

It depends on way too many factors. There are many springs designed for the stock shocks which will provide better handling and still maintain good driveability, but won't provide much of a drop (GTWorx, swift, robispec?).

And then there are springs that will completely ruin your handling (tein..).

And then (I haven't really looked into it, but I'm sure there are some) some springs that would be completely crappy on stock shocks, but awesome on aftermarket shocks.

You could go the cheap route and just buy some springs designed to work with stock shocks, and those would give you a bit of drop and not compromise your shocks or handling.

there are lots of springs out there, some are merely for cosmetic purposes (lowering the stance of the car) and some also improve handling.

depending what you use your car for and how hard you drive it will decide what springs to get. if you just daily drive your car in good conditions, and you want to look a bit better, than some springs which provide a decent drop might make you happy. if you're keen on driving some challenging roads at times then you might want to find some springs which will improve your handling.

otherwise save up and buy some proper suspension components - coilovers - which will allow you to drop the ride height and improve handling.

I was going to go the coilover route, but I decided to wait until my Billsteins wore out. The springs from Works were $450 I think and they work fine for what I do in the car.

All of the info here is good. What also springs will do to your shocks should help you make a decision. Your shocks won't last as long as with stock springs.

Coil-overs are one route - but one either has its pro/cons. I.e. winter state + road salt + coil-over = not fun. A good spring, strut, and sway can be an awesome setup also.

I have driving a few different susp. setups - talk about them here:

What type of springs should i get just for the lowering look and comfort?

I'm not a really big racer, but at the same time i don't want to loose performance.

What type of suspension combo should i go for my needs?

I have Tein S-Tech springs and love how my car looks lowered 2"; and the handing was not "ruined" as some people claim (generally the ones who have no experience with them and only go by hearsay because so-and-so on the internet said this or that). I am very happy with the springs and they've been on the car for about 17k miles.

I would suggest Swift springs ( sport max i think, "the first release" ). it looks lowered but it still feels stock.

Swift Sports. The car will not feel stock - it will fell better

Here is a good rolling photo of how the car will look:

And one on how it will perform:

It will help with even a mild drop. With something that lowers more then an inch i'd definitely go for it unless you auto-x and it puts you in a difficult class.

It's not a "must have" but it's certainly a "nice-to-have."

Swifts if you want more of a drop and you don't want your handling to suck.
