I am planning to replace the brake fluids. For normal driving could I use NAPA Dot-4 or Pennzoil ? I think Motul and Brembos are for racing or very aggressive driving. What do you think?

I like ATE superblue. It has a high temp rating and is not very hydroscopic.

ATE Superblue and Motul; isn't that over doing it for normal driving?

how normal do u drive your evo??

seriously, ATE Super blue is great and I run it for daily driving and no problems at all. Just consider it extra protection in case you do "non-normal" driving.

ATE also absorbs very little water and can go for long periods of time between changes.

Motul 600 fine for DD, and the occasional track day.

It is actually Hygroscopic .... which Ester based Brake Fluids are... Hygroscopic that is.....

That is why you throw away any Brake Fluid that has been opened and also the reason for Bleeding and Flushing as per my recommendations...

You cannot tell good brake fluid from bad just by looking at it.. The water does not seperate to see, it is absorbed right into the fluid, just like Alky Fuels.

BUT, if you CAN see a difference.... You are LONG Overdue for a complete system flush..

Hey OilDoc I am interested in the Amsoil Dot 4. I think its main competitor is Motul RBF600. How often should you change the Dot4? I assume its more hygroscopic than typical fluid. Is once a year still fine with a few autox/light tracking?

Also I should probably add I live in the Seattle area which gets more rain than typical places. Car is driven about 8k miles per year.

Amsoil or Motul all the way. I recently had my brakes flushed with Amsoil and couldn't be happier.
