Time Attack Need some good advice

Hi I have a Evo IX with Kw 3 varient I do Time attack in greece and raced many events in the states at SCCA..I have some good experience of racing but i would like to read some advice from you guys about my car set up..

Like I said I have KW3,cusco front brace bumper, under carriage cusco, rear cusco carbon strut bar, rear cusco trunk bar,Carbing front strut bar,18x8.5 work CR KAI 30offset 255/35/18 toyo R888,I have tried many things like tire pressure at 35psi at 40 psi and at 30 psi then i have tried camber at 1.5 front then 2.0front with toe 0 then toe at -1.5 plus +1.5I have tried the rear at 1.5 camber and -1.5 toe open to make the rear turn in quicker.

My problem is the wheel hop on the 180degree corners and my speed in to the corner is good i tried doing it slow and still had a little wheel hop. I would like to read some comments from other guys to tell me what they have seen and i would really be happy if you guys could give me ideas because no one perfect...I love my pig and i always beat the **** out of it...Plus I want to know if you guys use the same things to race and if i should go with sway bars and maybe a differnt wheel alighment..Plus last one i have gone with KW greece to adjust my suspension but maybe it might be wrong too...Any advice i will be open to hear even about my driving..thats why we have these forms to help one another...I will be looking into the thread..

What are your spring rates?

I would run more camber up front then -2.0.

I am looking to buy the new Kw suspension clubsport or i am going to ohlins. I was thinking of puttin camber plates to my KW 3's..The spring rate i will find out today and tell you ...Thanx for answering.......The thing is that kw does not say anything about the spring rates... I talked to the dealer in greece and he didn't give me a staight answer ....Was saying from 7kg to 9 kg

Excessive wheel hop could be a symptom of too much compression damping. Have you tried backing off the compression damping a bit? If you have high and low speed compression adjustment, I'd begin with high and move to low if symptoms persist.

You might have agood point because , when i went to the track with the dealer of KW they adjust my suspension with me testing it and we made the car become a train on tracks...but then i went to 5-6 races and i felt the suspension a bit slugish and i gave 4 click all around and the car ever since has felt to do wheel hop in the front wheels when i ever go to 180 degree turns..I will try it back to the same settings ... Thanx for that advice...But cant that make my car to much lean on corners????

The amount of body roll will be a function of your springs and swaybars mostly. Damping does not contribute to the amount of body roll, only the rate at which load is transferred. Rebound adjustments have more of an effect on the rate of roll though, and you probably won't be touching your rebound adjustments.

back your dampening to at least 1/2 way to start with to get better road contact. add some good swaybars to keep the car flat and dial out some of that nasty understeer. you may also want to look at a softer compound tire. 888s dont come up to temp very fast and are quite hard. the new dunlop 03Gs medium come on much faster but need a cycle to make them last longer. or for a cheaper one get some bridgestone RE55s SR2 compound. the dont come on as quick but wear a bit better.

Thanx for the help..ReddragonAUS and noob4life,I will be testing my car by next week i should have the motor done and the transmission...Plus last time i race was at time attack and the car 35psi front and 34psi rear and i had tighten the rebound by 4 clicks and the dampen ing by 5 clicks almost all the way...And now i have ordered sway bars front and back cusco...front 26mm and rear24mm and I am going to unscrew the dampening and rebound to the same clicks i had it before but i want you guys to see the videos from my racing and tell me if you see the car leaning too much... Enjoy..

You should check when they are hot, after a few laps. Your tire pressures will give you a rough idea of how effectively you're using each contact patch, and in turn tells you where you need to start your tires cold. The only reason you'd be checking your tires before a run is if you knew where they had to be at in order to end up at the optimal hot #'s.

Yes the vid is great.

Starting at 35 psi cold will get up to over 40psi hot after a few hard laps. Allways check tour tires hot. There will most likley be a big difference in right and left temps as well as front and rear. When the temps stop changing your pretty much at an ideal pressure.
A heat sensor gun helps get the tire temp. You want a ballanced temp across the tire.
Changing your camber will also change tire temps. Like if the outside of the tire is hotter than the inside. Add camber to get a better contact patch ect.

At a track with corners like that I would be running at least -3 deg front camber, perhaps -4 if there isnt too many high speed braking points, and about -2 on the rear in my car.
Also look at getting a roll center kit for your car if its quite low. helps keep the body roll to a minimum. I have a whiteline (www.whiteline.com.au) kit in my car but most big japanese brands do them too.
