Lug Nuts...Your Preference? Street/Track?

What lug nuts do you guys prefer and why?

Long- prevent aftermarket wheels from being scratched,
Short- less weight,
Open-
Closed- prevent sand/dust from screwing with stud threads.

any specific brands for any specific reason?

Open, because I run extended studs. I haven't had any problems with my stud threads getting messed up and I RallyX my car a lot.

I also prefer lugs that don't use some weird key I have to keep track of and don't lock into my cordless impact gun. I don't DD my Evo, it just sits in the garage between events, so theft isn't a problem. I also prefer steel for durability.

Right now I have Kyokugen lugs, which are short, steel, very light, have withstood the abuse of a couple years of RallyX, but have that stupid 7-sided design so I have a key to deal with. I wish they made a 6-sided lug so I could just use a standard metric impact socket.

Steel open ended shorties seem to be the favorite for those who track their cars (cheap yet effective).

One of the best are the Kics

They are a chromoly alloy, super strong AND light weight. They also have a rotating collar that helps them be more consistent when torquing them down. . .

I've been using the same set on my AX cars for 3 years, with probably a hundred off-on torque cycles with no problems ever. . .

McGard Spline Drive lug nuts have worked really well for me. They are shorter, closed-end, have a rotating collar, are outer-spline driven (hence the name hehe), and lightweight. Can be had for around $70-$80. I've ordered 3 sets from Summit Racing for different applications. They also come in anodized end versions if you are into bling (non-anodized are the same, just not colored). They do require you keep the spline key in your car to use the lugs.

We just developed a super durable Aluminum lug nut that is an open ended design. Tougher than the other aluminum designs so it won't gaul and strip.

any of the above lugs nuts work with stock wheels? I have the BBS MR wheels on my VIII, the stock chrome lugs are heavy and look horrible.
