Hey all,

I hope you can help decide which pads best fit my needs. I don't care abt noise or dust. Just need some pads with strong bite. It's a must that they don't take forever to reach their operational temperature though. Of course performance pads will take some time to get into the optimal temp, but... you get the point.

Tks for your help,

Cheers

For street or track use?

The PF01s are track pads.

Search DS2500s, they have a nice bite and are street pads.

Look for my review shortly of Satisfied GS5 pads. I have used these pads in the past. After killing my front HPSs this summer AXing and DD, I decided to go back to them. I have been talking with Satisfied, right now they have more in stock.

Steet pads:

PF Zs
DS2500s
Satisfied Gransport GS5*

*I was going to go with the PF Z pads, but I called Satisfied about the GS5s. I ran these 2 years ago. Great pad, lots of bite, but hard to get my hands on. Last time they made a set one-off for me. But they had them in stock this time around. $130 for a front set. Look for my full review soon as I get my hands on them.

You said you were going with the PF Zs, why not the DS2500s ??
What is the downside of the track pads when used on the street?? I drive my car for AX and AX like applications, and it's also my DD.

Price. The DS2500s are 200ish a front set. The GS5s are 130. The GS5s temp range is 100F-850F, the DS2500s is 100F to 1000F. And I believe they have similar friction coefficient around 0.49. Means they are a med-high torque pad - lots of bite. I am not worried about the MOT (max op temp) of the pads since I have a track set. No street pad should ever be tracked on - bad things can happen. And I have had the GS5s before and have driven cars with the DS2500s. They are about the same.

Track pads have very different operating temps and wear rates. The PF01s do heat up under 200F but they will be noisey and they can eat rotors. You can also get the problem of materal transfer by using a pad out of its temp ranges - result is a wobble when braking ("warped").

The other side to the coin is other track pads do not operate until a specific temp. So for the first few moments in a first stop it can be scary. Example: my Hawk HT10s have an OT of 400-1300F. I generally put them on the morning of a track day and drive to the track with them on carefully braking to 1) not get them up to temp (so they dont transfer materail on the other pad materal), 2) lets them scrub off the old pad material. First stops after not using them I know to give a lot of distance and to downshift all my speed away first. Like getting off a freeway. Once on the track I can get them up to temps and they will give me what I need. Drive home the same way, change back to street pads - rebed those.

AXing does not = a track pad. You do not reach super high temps in an AX. With my heat gun I only see 250-400F (track days I have seen 900+F). I would get something like the DS2500s. They are good on the street and good for AXing.

Racing Brake 800 pads work very well for Time trials/Autocross/Street..they do dust alot and they don't squeal much( if at all )and can handle track heat. I use them full time on my car and highly recommend them!! I have used 4 sets this season and they all performed the same as far as lasting time and stopping ability and a really nice plus is they didn't tear up the rotors..I use the RB slotted one piece front and rear as well. Great products..Great people..INCREDIBLE Customer Service.. Pete

Any link where i can find the racing brake 800 pads??

SmikeEvo: Tks for your imput and valuable info man. It seems you're always here sharing your experience and giving technical info. So cool

As I said in my OP, I'm willing to give up some confort for performance (noise, dust, etc...)
What im looking for is strong bite and consistency. Strong bite to allow for weight transfer (rear to front), and consistency as not to have different braking points each time... Since it's my DD, it's aslo important that the pads don't wear too fast...reasonably fast is ok (that's a bit vague, I know)

To sum it up, do you think the PF01s will be better than the DS2500 on the AX like applications?? will they have stronger bite and more consistency?

Tks for all the imputs guys

For track I run PFC01's in the front and PFC 97's in the rear.

For street I run PFC z-rateds front and rear.

Information always helps, I have 97k on my car, been through OE, GS6, GS5, RB ET500, HT10, and HPS pads now. And I have driven a bunch of others. I have not driven the RB ET800s, after running the RB ET500s I was really disapointed in the customer service and pads. I had one of the first runs of the ET500s from RB - they were total crap (material build up, gassing - heavy pressure and lack of braking, etc). Instead of working with me on what the issue could be RB said it was my cars fault and not their pads. Changed to HPS - no more issues. It was the pads.

I think the DS2500 or GS5s would be better in the AX - they are cheaper and have med-high bite. They would come to temps slightly quicker too and have good rotor wear rates.

PF 97's Street and Track, done. After about a month of street only driving there is minimal squeel.

DS2500 have been my favorite all purpose pad for the Evo since 04'. For me they have also been easy on the rotors...
