The slight added drag and weight that you pointed out will be outweighted by the braking, accelarating and turning advantage offered by the increased grip of a bigger contact patch.

I have been down that road myself and (at the same power level) wider tires and the higher grip level they bring always resulted in faster times regardless of the increased weight and that's why I'm running 315's now.

The OP may not be able to make them fit with no rubbing without at least rolling the fender. So if fender rolling is totally out of the question, then 255 would probably be his best option.
For road racing I would go stickier before I go wider..... a 255 Hoosier will be better than any 275 street tire.

Not to mention smaller normally means less expensive as well.

For road racing stickier and wider would also net better results than just stickier, think 275 Hoosier vs 255 Hoosiers. You got a point however about pricing going up as the tire becomes wider but you gotta pay to play.

Wider tires aren't necessarily better if the alighment doesn't allow for full use of the tires. But I think we may be getting off topic here.

BTW, fender rolling prices varies; and noone will guarantee a flawless finish. And if someone wants to prove me wrong, I will be glad to give that shop some business!

My alignment now is maxed-out at stock, which is -1.5 degrees. Last weekend I trashed my Nitto's at Pocono, by cording the outside shoulder of the loaded front wheel. I have a set of coilovers ordered and then I'll be able to dial-in about -2.8 to -3.0 front negative camber. That will definitely help with turn-in speeds. (Before, it was pushing like a plow)

Gtfour43 directed us to a thread, that after reading it, implied no fender rolling is necessary for the 275 application.

Comments ???

I still wanna know how to do the 275's w/o rolling.

just cut the lips off with a dremel and coat the cut area with something that protects against rust.

If you still want to know, then choosing the right wheel will allow you to run whatever you want...haha. Someone is selling a set of custom HRE's, made specifically for the evo. The seller is running 275s with no clearance issues, no spacers...exactly what you're looking for.

I wouldn't go with 275 in 17" size. If you have to have 275, get some 18" wheels.

As for fitting 275 without rolling fenders, that means you have to have a rim with high offset. You may not rub fenders, but you will rub liners and inner fender wall, and even coilover.

In your place I would roll fenders. I have 17x9.5 with low offset +25 . Currently I run 255 NT01. I don't feel I need 275, but if that day comes, I will defenitely get them in 275x35x18 .. In 17" size, side wall is just too tall for my liking .

My car is also weekend Track day, and occasional AutoX .. nothing more nor less

Yes, maybe my 17" is the problem. I've got 3 sets of 17" wheels and tires, so no point changing now. I'll just dial in more front negative camber.

Just get your fenders rolled, it'll be fine! Whomever you have do the rolling, tell them to go slow and roll in very small increments and keep applying heat to the body panel. Fender rolling is cheap compared to the cost of the 275 wide tires you'll be purchasing.

Yes, much easier but more time consuming than a rubber hammer or a cutting wheel (used all 3 in the past). If you don't want cracking, you will need a heat gun. Having a buddy's extra hands to help out also helps. IM me if you have specific questions.
