Scratching sound when braking
Scratching sound when braking
I've been hearing the scratching sound lately and it's getting a little louder. I talk to one of my friend and he think it's probably the pad from the inside is wearing out. My Evo now has 43K miles and I know the brake pads and rotors has not been changed yet so I'm assuming it's about time to do so. Anyways, I just bought a set of D/S rotors and pads from Raceconcept on Ebay. Hope they are good. Cost me about $320 shipped. I'm going to inspect the brake rotors once I get the rotors. If it's nothing major, I'll just replace the pads and wait until the OEM rotors are wearing down more
Any suggestions?

The minimum thickness is written on the rotor hat. And I have never heard of DS Rotors. I recommend RotorPros and a few different street pads.

D/S = Drilled and slotted, I think. My rear calipers were pushing the pads a little crooked when I had everything stock. The pad metal backing was rubbing on the rotor at the very edge causing a "scratching" sound. I replaced the pads, had the dealer check the calipers and all is good now.

Its not necessary. Your rotors can far outlast your pads if your running the right pads for your driving style. Most of the time people race around and run their stock pads outside of their operating temp and that will chew up the rotors and the pads forcing you to replace both but if your driving withing the limitations of your pads you rotors should hold up fine. We have had a customer go through 3 sets of DS2500s on his street car and get just under 60k miles on a set of our 2pc rotors so if you treat your rotors good they can really do go the distance.

Unless my rotors are too thin I just do pads.
Ah, D/S - thought it was a Ebay brand...I still stand by RotorPros here. Ebay is sketchy at best.

Thanks to all that respond. I think i found the answer to the scratchy sound. I remove all wheels from rotors and have 4 jacks at each corners. Put it on first gear and let it roll slowly and have my wife inspect all 4 rotors. Found that the one behind the driver side is sqeeking(scratching). I use the OEM lug to tighten the rotors to the hub and run again. This time no sqeeking sounds. I guess when I replace my summer wheel to my winter wheels, I did not tighten that wheel well enough. I'm going to Hand Torque it to spec and do a test run.
Yeah, the abbreviation D/S stands for Drill and Slot. Here's the website to the rotors I purchase. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...3AIT&viewitem=
Girodisc Martin - I like the rotors you have but it's just out of my budget for now. Maybe in the future if I plan on doing serious track.
