The infamous whining noise... Trust me/us, you'll know. But if you need more help A) there are a few threads with the "death whine" recorded, so you could hear it B) you could change the tc fluid and see if it has metal flakes in it real bad.

I ran my 8 with 225 all around for a time (while my new enkeis arrived) on a set of Evo6 OZs. I know it's not the same as your case, but it was great fun! I got everywhere sliding on 4 wheels!

i think you're referring to this:

in that case, i don't have the death whine. whew. i did have a very soft whine but it seemed to have gone away once i got my tires replaced, which was like a few hours ago. i read that a soft whine in 1st and 2nd gear is normal and a decel whine is due to the clutch. i have ACT street, so maybe that's why? so does that mean my t-case is fine?

Sounds to me like you should be fine, if you had a little whine before it was probably road noise from your tires behaving oddly and decel noise in 1st and 2nd (as long as it isn't loud) is fine, especially with an aftermarket clutch. I imagine you're good. Keep an ear out for louder whining, when it's bad, you know, trust me. Mine would HOWL on the freeway so loud I couldn't hear my music, road noise, or my exhaust, just the whine of the dead TC. The Evo makes so many god damn noises it's hard to tell, but if it is the TC, you'll know. Ugh, still gives me chills just thinking about it.

Or, next oil change you could just change the TC fluid (which you should be doing anyway IMO) and take a look at it. That'll give you piece of mind.
