I have a grinding noise coming from the driver's side front wheel. Sounds like metal to metal grinding/chaffing. Only happens once per wheel rotation. The faster I'm moving, the faster the noise. Already bent back the dust shield. Noise didn't go away. Installing new brake pads (wear markers?) this weekend. Is there anything else I should check for?

 

Check for wheel bearing play. Sit down in front of the wheel (chest towards the wheel) and grab the rim or tire. Shake the wheel forward and backward. If there is play or a noise - have the bearing checked. I say bearing, but for our cars its part of the wheel hub.

 

With the car on the ground or jacked?

 

Should work either way.

 

Just checked at lunch. No play or noise. Will try again at home with the car jacked. Did notice that my rims are covered in little metal flakes. :-(

 

Sounds more like the pads are shot and it metal on metal contact (pad to rotor).

 

Pads I say happened on the RS. The inside's were wiped and grinded like heck. I replaced the rotors too
