Brakes pop

Sometimes in the morning or after the car has been sitting a while the brakes will make an unnerving loud pop noise when first moved. I'm sure this has something to do with the oxidation build up on the rotors when the conditions are right. But I've never heard a car pop this loud before. You can feel the pop inside the car. Makes me think I'm breaking something everytime. Anyone else experienced this?

I get the same thing. I'm pretty sure its from the pads sticking to a wet rotor after it dries and you get that oxidation layer.

Do either of you guys park you car on an inclined driveway? I know I get the same thing from my commuter car (not an EVO) and my driveway is pretty steep.

yup, pads sticking to rotors after they are wet and you park it. don't put your parking brake on after washing the car or after rain, it will stick, too.

Yeah, even the morining dew or humidity can cause them to stick a bit. I go through this every morning!

I'm parked on a level surface.

I just noticed this for the first time today. The car was parked for a week while I was out of town and it was a humid environment. The car was parked pointing downhill and when I started coasting I heard 4 separate pops as each wheel broke free from the calipers. There was definitely rust on the disks. I don't notice anything permanent, the brakes worked smoothly after I used them a few times.

BTW, has anybody noticed how the tires flat-spot when the are cold? The EVO really does this more than any other car I've had. The good news is that they feel round again after about 3 miles.

I have the same thing happen to me with Axxis Ultimates onthe rear of my SE-R. The all-time worst was when I parked it for ~ a month in the garage this past winter with the e-brake on. The pads didn't so much stick, but actually welded themselves to the rotor. No they were not hot when I pulled the e-brake. It was the dead of winter.

The deposits on the rotors were so bad I had to replace the rotors. Really don't know what causes this. I just no longer park with my e-brake unless I really need it. No more problem.

It can also happen if you had heated the brakes and shut down before they had time to cool. So if you banzai run to your driveway, then shut it down hard and fast, you likely will have them pop the next day.
