Goodyear Eagles?

Back in the 80's, almost every high performance car came with Goodyear Eagles from the factory. Cars like the Mustang GT 5.0, Corvette, Firebird, etc. I don't see the Eagles mentioned here in tire threads, and was wondering if they are really not as good anymore, or people just forgot about them? I checked Goodyear's site, and they still sell the Eagle high performance tire.

There are some goodyear eagle tires out like the f1's that are great, but just cause they say goodyear doesn't mean they are good.

You can go to tirerack.com and look at the reviews on all their tires

Goodyear make some great tires, but there are better options for less money.

FYI, Dunlop is a Goodyear brand. I run the F1 A/S tires as my DD, good for that. And I ran the Z1 and Z1 Star Spec as my race tire last season, very good tire.

F1's have very soft sidewalls and it is common to have bubbles with normal street driving and roll over with track abuse.

I would say go with a different tire.

I have F1 on both of my evos. My IX Mr's lasted 25,0000 miles before I got a bubble in the side wall. Still have the fronts now on the back replaced the fronts. The tire was in rear where I got the bubble. I drive daily at 100 mph plus. Excellent all weather tires.

F1's were the factory tire on my VW. Take my word for it, bubbles were a regular thing under all driving conditions from people all across the country.

I dont know anyone who has run F1's and not had a bubble at some point during ownership.

They are amazing in the rain though until the tread wears down a bit and cuts off the rain grooves where water is lead from underneath the tire.

I would like too see the links to everyone having issues with those tires. And with the right tire psi they are not as soft as you think.

I put almost 30k on my F1's including a track day and not a bubble. For the money these tires are great for the first 5k, after that they are junk. There are plenty of other tires to choose from for less that will give you much better results.

Not a bad tire. Don't usually recommend them because most the time there's better out there for less. They haven't come out with anything that's really knocked the socks off the heavy hitters like Dunlop, B-Stone, or Yoko.

I would prefer not to get in to a cross forum posting debacle.

My main point to the OP is that there are better tires out there in the same price range.

The GY F1 tires came as OE supplied in a 225 40 18 size on a ~3400 LB car.

Recommended manufacturer tire pressure up front is 35 psi. At this pressure, many others have noted two main issues.

The front tires will roll over onto their sidewalls when pushed hard. Upping the pressure help with sidewall roll over but the philosophy of running the lowest pressures you can for best grip is forgotten in the effort to trying to keep the tire off the sidewall and improve turn-in feel.

The other main complaint was bubbles.

Hope this helps.

First issue is also a camber (or lack of) issue. And again, I have not heard of bubbling - thats from the engineers.

The info I posted is at stock ride height and on stock camber specs. You may be right, lowered and with neg camber this would be less of an issue.

Here are the specs (not my car) but I think my point still holds. Sidewalls are soft and there are other tires out there at the same price point with much better performance

Well, almost 0 camber means in any turn your tires will roll over on themselves.

There are other tires out there. This thread is about the GY F1's, they are more money that others, but they still perform quite well.

And again, they are not that soft.
