Question Tire Question

Hey Guys-

I am going to be buying some new tires soon and I have a few questions.

The stock tires are 235/45/17. Can I (should I) run 245/45/17 tires on the stock rims? Will they rub?

I am currently looking at two tires. Toyo R1R's and the Nitto Nt05's. Any preference as to which one I should pick over the other? Any other tire suggestions? The Evo is my weekend warrior so I don't drive it all the time.

Thanks for any input

From: somewhere testing various tires, brakes, and suspensions.
Please search and read on this issue. It has been covered - a lot.

245/45/17 will work fine on the OE rim. Depending on the tire 255/40/17 also works.

Thanks for the reply and link. Do you have any personal tire manufacturer suggestions?

Depends on the usage. For what you have mentioned - TR1R's or NT05's are good weekend warrior tires. 2 others are the Dunlop Z1 Star Spec's and B'stone RE01R's (sale on those right now). The Z1* have better heat up and grip - I raced last season on the Z1 and Z1* - great tire.

Yes, the Evo is my weekend warrior

Awesome, thanks for the input, I'll check those tires out as well.

Thank you!

Although a GREAT aftermarket size for the Evo is 245/40R17. Go a little shorter, because if you go up to a 245, you'll actually have a slightly taller tire than the factory, which will adversely affect handling performance.

How short would you recommend?

I am not lowered at all.

After looking online i used http://www.1010tires.com/tiresizecalculator.asp to figure out the differences between the tire sizes. Still haven't decided which to go with, I'm still reading and waiting to hear opinions from people

I am getting mixed messages about rubbing with 245/45/17 on a stock MR suspension and stock MR 17" BBS wheels.

evokid511 and the tire sticky say that I will get rubbing.

vgknight and SmikeEvo say rubbing will not be an issue.

What should I take away from this? Rubbing may be an issue?

286bph, I can give you a data point on my set up.
I'm currently running RT615 tires in the 245/45/17 size on 17x8 +29 wheels with stock MR suspension.
Stock offset is +38 So the +29 I'm running pushes the wheels slightly towards the outside of the car
I don't have any rubbing at all.
