Trouble Removing Bolt on Rear Shocks?

Has anyone encountered this problem? I was trying to get that top bolt off but turning that bolt seems to spin the entire metal piece of the shock..

Any solutions?

You have to use a crescent wrench to hold the shaft while breaking it loose with a 17mm open ended wrench. If you don't it will keep on rotating.

hmm
I tried to use a vicegrip to hold it but it just kept on spinning.
I guess the plan will be to use an impact gun from a shop for now

Impact gun is good for removal, DO NOT use it to reinstall the nut. You can damage shock internals.

Is it bad that I've cut the bump stop in my attempts to grip the shock?

If you damage a sealing surface on the rod you can subsequently destroy the seals too, leading to leakage and ultimately failure of the shock.

It really depends on where you were gripping the rod.

Thanks for the help. Finally done! After we got the struts back on, they started spinning again.. so I had to get them to use the impact gun to tighten it up. It just wouldnt tighten otherwise.

Suspension is great, the fronts randomly creak once in a while when I'm turning the wheel to full lock.. Not sure what that's all about, but everythin seems to be in running order
