Staggered Te37 Tire Question
Staggered Te37 Tire Question
I got a too good to be true deal on a set of white te's 8.5 front 9.5 rear 40+ I already did my research on staggered set ups and the "Maybe" faster wear on drivetrain does not worry me, so please lets not debate that my question is what size tire should I stick with im debating between 265/40/17 or 255/40/17, but im worried that the 265 in the front with only 8.5 width is going to not be such a great idea but I don't want the strechy look on the rear either I like the meaty tires look, has anyone ever tried 265's on a 8.5 rim? And please chime in with your opinions on what size tire I should go with thank you
Are you aware of exactly WHY and HOW your drivetrain could suffer from "maybe faster wear" from your setup?
Are you asking if ONE of those sizes will be suitable for both wheel widths, or one on one width and one on the other?
Have you looked up the OD of said tires on said width wheels?
Even though you don't want to debate it...
+40 is really high for an Evo. Since you seem more concerned with "looks" than anything else, that won't look particularly good, especially on an 8.5.
Forget "looks," "meaty" or "stretchy." For a staggered setup not to destroy your diff and Tcase, you need to take careful measures to ensure that the outer diameter of front and rear wheels are the same. If you don't, you're going to "look" like an idiot when you are posting your "tcase whine, busted ____" thread in the near future due to the fact that your "too good to be true" fail offset and width uneven diameter tires turned out to be just that.
Putting some less than ideal width and offset wheels that you got for a good deal before the longevity of your drivetrain is just plain out stupid, no matter how good a deal you got on them and how nice they are.

I really appreciate your concern of my t-case but I am very aware of the size difference, I know that I have to use the SAME SIZE TIRE on all 4 wheels and I WILL do so, about your comment, that all I care about is looks, you are very wrong there buddy, +40 offset may be a little high but there nothing a spacer won't do and not to mention the weight of these wheels compared to stock. But again back to my question: what my question was is which size tire would be more appropriate to use on ALL FOUR WHEELS 255, or 265? Considering that the fronts are 8.5 in width.
And I forgot to add that there's many people running staggered setups with same zise tires on all 4 wheels and as of now I haven't seen 1 person with any long term damage to their t-case, I actually been running different size tire on my actual setup for about 20,000 miles, but I am not saying that is right because is proven that it causes damage and I do not recommend it. but I been doing it and so far so good...but im changing that soon... for an 03 with 65,000 my t-case still like new....
Not a very logical way to go about replacing wheels and tires. Also +40 offset is higher than stock. It will appear as if your half inch wider wheel will be "sucked in" behind the fender line. Please listen to some of the evo members here. We're not trying to bash. We're simply trying to help you out. Your ignorance will lead to a failure. Staggered set up is not the way to go on an awd.
I don't think they are going to look that good with a not so aggressive looking in the front
sorry man and 40 offset with a spacer ya it will work but wont have that aggressive look of a concave look. Personal I dont care that you are getting AMAZING deal on the wheels. Get them and flip them and get a set that is more for a Evo. Well to answer your question Go with a 255 tire. 265 is to wide. and you can fit 255 on a 10.5 wide wheel too so your wheels being 9.5 it will be just fine.

Same size tire on different width wheels = different overall tire diameter.
