Brake Rotor and Pad Suggestions

I believe my rotors are warped because when I brake hard the steering wheel shakes. I replaced front and rear pads with Hawk HPS at about 30k miles and am now at 40k miles on stock rotors. I have done tons of reading on here and other sites about pad and rotor combinations.

I am looking to replace the front rotors and pads because the rear are fine. I found some packages including DBA 4000 front slotted rotors and Hawk HPS front pads for under $400. However, I wanted to see if Hawk pads are good to slotted rotors in your opinion or if there are better pads for those rotors or any other rotor suggestions.

Post what set up you have any your opinion or suggestions. Thanks.

I've already cut the rotors once. They're just not good anymore. The car sucks at stopping haha and I want to change that.

Please search and read. This has been asked and covered. The thread below is something that I wrote to answer most questions.

HPS suck. Slotted are a waste of money and they cannot be turned.

GiroDisc blanks are a good low cost option - $250 for all four.

Thats good for rotors. I like running the ferrodo ds2500 pads. they've been great for me on street and light track duty. They're a bit expensive from most places but i get mine through raceshopper.com and they give excellent pricing. the price isn't on the website you have to either call them or email them for a quote. But believe me it is much cheaper than any other place for brake pads

You are confused on what "warping means" - its a misnomer for pad transfer. You can turn rotors until they are too thin (min thickness is on the hat). If you are replacing before that point, then you are spending more money than needed.

Make sure your rotors are not cracked, if they are cracked or chipped, the depth of the crack may make turning the rotors impossible (as was the case with my OEM rotors after a season on them). MAPerformance will get you a good deal on those Giros too, I think even less then Smike posted.

FWIW Smike, Mitsu will not turn Evo rotors, ever, according to the dealers around here... Im not sure I buy it. I didnt pursue anyone else though as my rotors were absolutely destroyed and AMS checked them out after a tune and they didnt measure the thickness but because of the damage said not likely on the turning

Thanks all. SmikeEvo, I did read through that thread, but just wanted to try out this thread. I am pretty much just looking for rotors and pads for daily driving with some spirited driving occassionally haha.

The main point is my car does not stop like it should. The brakes are crap in my opinion and need to work much better. I am looking for opinions on which pads are a good combination with slotted rotors.

I have seen from a couple places that the PFZ pads are edge the 2500s just slightly (search on here about the PFZs and a telemetry test, there was a thread on it) and I have PFZs and I cant complain. They are good for legitimately light track duty, but they will not stand more than a few laps. My pads performed decently for more than "light" but my front pads are in pretty poor condition as a result. They were clearly overheated, and as I said above, my rotors were annihilated.

Crap... three posts in a row...

Anyway, if you are not experiencing fade from prolonged use and you are not pleased with the stopping performance, odds are your fluid is crap. Have you tried replacing with something like ATE Super Blue or Motul RBF600? The stock pads and stock rotors should not leave you wanting in terms of stopping distances unless you are burning up the brakes.

My driving habits are average to below average on aggressiveness. Hmm, I will have to look into the fluid. Thanks Protostar.
