AMR Engineering coilovers

I have needed new suspension on my Evo almost as soon as I put it on. The H&R street system was inadequate for my needs right out of the box, but rather than just replace it right away I waited till it was time. The squeaks and creaks, the blown strut after 2.5 years of driving, single height adjustment, no dampening control, all of this had driven me to the point of throwing them away.

Enter AMR. They are a local company that supply coilovers for quite a few cars on the market and recently started offering them for the Evo. I talked to Andy about what I needed, what I thought I wanted, and what the car was going to be used for. In the end I got a 550/450 set valved and setup for a car with the Silver State Classic in mind. They are billet pillowball hats and mounts, Hyperco linear springs, 8 way adjustable dampening, and a really cool double adjusting height setup.

Here is what I saw when I opened the box:

I have now put a 1000 miles on them with quite a few canyon miles as well. Between these and my current 265 tire selection I couldnt be happier. Noise free, sharp crisp handling that really does work as if tailor fit to my car. I am running a mildly aggressive alignment (-1.7/-1.5 0* toe in front and .30*+ rear) with a 27mm rear bar, stock front. The car really never feels like it gets to the edge on the street and these arent even my R compounds. I really am looking forward to putting them on the track and testing them a little more thoroughly.

The best part is the warranty

Thanks Andy for building me some kick *** suspension.

Do you sell these now, or do you have a link to a place that does? Thanks

They look real beefy, I wonder who builds them?
Any reasoning behind those spring rates?

Yeah, once you figure in the motion ratio, the back is pretty soft. Matches the weight distribution of the car though.

I would imagine the toe out in the rear along with the bigger bar makes the car more neutral then the spring rates alone would provide.

Any actual pics of your set? I already spoke to him about a very similiar setup but the springrates would be reversed 450F/550R.

Why? So you can see them dirty? LOL. They are going to look exactly like the picture he posted. It seems he's a lil lazy on the picture taking.

I had a set of AMR's from Andy on my 00 Civic Si, awesome coilover and great guy. Didn't know they were making them for evo's, looks like I found my next set of coilovers. Is Andy on evom?

We are currently referring people to AMR directly, but these will be on our store...if I can ever get that fixed.

I had 457/457 springs, but based on what I have previously tested I knew how I wanted my spring rates and where. I have tried reversing spring rates and it doesnt seem to work for how my alignment and swaybars are currently set. I dont really track the car much so it works nice on the street. My car is also non ACD now which dramatically affects how the car enters and moves through the corner.

Andy is right, I am a lil lazy. It was late and I wanted to get on the road and head to my parents so rather than document it like I normally would have...I cheated.

Positive toe is toe in 0.30+ total toe

Ever ran the stiff front/light rear ratio with stock sway bars? I've never been a fan of using sway bars to get the car to rotate because the big rear bar makes for interesting braking response.

Every big rear sway bar car I've driven has scared the **** out of me in slick conditions.

I personally run 10kg/mm front and 12kg/mm rear with the stock bars and find the car to rotate nicely but still be completely controllable in slick conditions. Very similar to my 50/50 weight balanced 3 series with full coilovers and front and rear bars. Although the EVO definitely has more grip then the BMW.
