2012 power variance?

So I have tuned 3 2012s (2 MR and 1 GSR) in the last 2 days and noticed that they seem to be down about 15-20whp from where an equivalent 2008, 10, or 11 would be with the same mods.

I have been racking my brain trying to think of what is different. The MIVEC maps are a departure for Mitsu from what they have been doing, it looks like they are really trying to make some fast spool but arent so hot after that. I really though they looked very similar to a Ralliart. Not saying the cams are smaller but something isnt adding up there in comparison to the other year Xs.

Sample runs-

MR

I would have strongly thought that all the mods (TBE, 4" intercooler, intake, etc.) should do what I normally see on 2010 and 2011 MRs which is high 320s at that boost level. Correction factor vs uncorrected has only varied +/- 1hp in the last 2 days so air is about perfect here right now.

GSR-

Again the same mods as above and I have done 355-360whp on 3 cars in the last month with the same mods.

These are the first of the 2012s I have had on the dyno so my question is what is different? What has changed that makes these cars down on power? No boost leaks, did timing sweeps on all of them, maxed the boost, lowered the boost, etc. They just are tracking about 15whp less on average than a 2011 down.

Aaron

You putting the same mivec maps from other old years in there or leaving the 2012 mivec maps stock?

Very interesting. I wonder what is different. I'm still trying to understand why the 2012s dont use synthetic oil..

I tuned two 2012’s both made around 295 WHPish And 325ish tq. And our dyno is about 20% lower then a DJ. Both at 29 PSI 93 octane.

I never use the OEM mivec map.

Care to post a rom so we can see?

I used the stock MIVEC, then switched to my MIVEC map and normal ROM. I did a 4* timing sweep from my normal basemap, played with fuel, then did a MIVEC sweep as well. The fact is these cars are down on power without apparent reason other than they are 2012s. Maybe its a glitch and a case of my 10-80-10 rule getting me without enough cars to make an accurate judgement. I posted this more to get other 2012 vs all other year dyno sheets to see if its something obvious or just a case of these 2 are lower percentile cars.

I will have to switch computers to show the variation of the 4 years in MIVEC maps and comparison to an RA. Other than the MIVEC the map is identical to any of the other years of X though as far as how it looks.

Thats really odd! I even did a stock one with only a catback, stock air filter and bcs. It did 280 285 at 25 PSI.

Looking at my maps i believe the timing map is about 2-3* higher across the board.

how does number compare to 2008-2011s you have done with similar setups?

Yes, corrected to uncorrected number varied 1-2hp, I did 3 cars in 2 days with the same ambient conditions.

Are you referring to the maps or cams? It sounds like you are implying the RA cams are a different size??

I am implying that the MIVEC looks like the Ralliart. The Ralliarts do have smaller cams.
