Help with bilstien swap
I'm trying to swap in an MR suspension on my IX. My spring clamps are garbage so I opted to install the coilover sans the top spring seat and let the weight of the car push the threads up through the shock tower so I could put the nut on. The problem I'm having is that it's not going all the way up long enough to expose the threads and I can't figure out why. Any input would be appreciated.

It says plain as day in the manual...
"Remove the 2 hinge bolts on each side of the hood. Place the hood on the roof. Get a friend to stand on the strut tower with you and jump up and down while another friend threads the 14mm strut nut."

You can buy some spring compressors real cheep at autozone. Just did eibach springs today on my ix and used the compressors to take the stock springs off because you don't want the upper mount to blast ya in the face if you take the nut off without them
I was able to get the nuts on without the spring compressors with me compressing the new springs and my girl getting the nut started
If you need just compress the springs before getting the nut started.

No, seriously... if you're doing lowering springs at the same time you should have no problem with the rears by yourself. You might have to have someone thread the strut nuts on the front while you use a little body weight to push the cap/hat down to expose the threads. You'll have to get one side of the bottom coil off of the perch to get the hat lined up with the flat side of the strut shaft. Once you compress, the spring will seat down all the way.
