Do Shocks w/ Springs Rub More Than Coilovers?

i have a set of Endless Zeal Function XS coilovers on my car right now. i DD my car and don't track or autocross my car frequently enough to justify the harsh ride of the coilovers. i was contemplating on going back to MR Bilstein Shocks with Swift Mach Sport Springs or Bilstein HD Shocks with Swift Spec R Springs or any combination of the two. i would probably want the stiffest set up so i'm thinking Bilstein HD's with Swift Spec R's. if i go back to shocks/springs will i have more of a chance of rubbing? im running TE37's in 18 x 9.5 +22 with Dunlop Sport Maxx's in 245/40/18 with a one finger gap all around and i rarely, if at all, rub right now with the coilovers. also, if i do end up getting shocks and springs i would want to keep the same drop that i have on my car right now. when i had my MR Bilsteins on Swift Mach Sport Springs with stock wheels and tire size i had almost a two finger gap in the front and back. since i have the larger volks do you think they will fill in the gap a little more and reduce it to a one finger gap? lemme know what you guys think. thanks.

Why not just get softer springs for your Zeal's?

If you want a smoother ride....it's not easy to do with a slammed car. You have to make some compromises.

i guess my biggest concern is rubbing issues if i go back to shocks/springs. will shocks/springs make rubbing more likely? would it depend on how stiff the springs are?

245s should not rub, although I can't speak to the offset of your wheel (+22 seems plenty, though). Usually it's not until you step up to a 265 that you start worrying about rubbing.

Well, you might be more likely, or you might be less likely.

If you switch to springs, your car will likely be higher, meaning it could rub less. However, if it's about the same drop that you already have, you will be more likely to rub because of the lower spring rate causing increased body roll over the setup that you currently have.

With the softer springs, yes you will have more body roll, but you can also adjust your ride hight since you have coilovers to compensate for any rubbing you might have. Also there are a number of things you can do not to rub in the rear. 245 and +22 with rolled rear fenders you should be just fine with a bit of camber back there too.
