Bilstein OEM or up to HD? more questions in thread

1st for the car setup. Its a 05 evo 8 MR with the stock suspension but numerous engine upgrades (about 380-390 hp). The problem is that i have a leaking front shock and instead of just getting OEM i was looking at possibly upgrading to the HD. $ vs. performance value is the main concern.

1. Im going to replace the springs with swift sport springs, get a 25 or 26mm rsb and am looking at the Whiteline roll centers. But is it worth it to also invest in the HD shocks or will the OEM Bilsteins work just fine as a DD and autoX car?

2. Could i just get HD shocks for the front since that is all that needs to be replaced?

Since you already have the MR Bilsteins I recommend you just send them in to be rebuilt and revalved to HD-spec if you want to go a bit firmer. I think its only around $300 to have the service performed by Bilstein.

Pick up a set of used KYBs for peanuts and ship the Bilsteins off for rebuilding. And when you rebuild, give Bilstein the final rates on the Swift springs you will be running. They will custom valve them to match those. And they will rock!

Man - suspension is one of the hardest things for me to figure out.

There are so many configurations and i'm never sure what I want.

Maybe you should go adjustable, so you have soft daily driving and you can make them stiff for track use. Assuming you do that sort of thing.

And what are the shock dynos on those Megans? What does each adjustment do? Did you know the same cartridge is used the the STi and Evo coilover - those are almost the same two cars.

After having them, pass on them.

Don't know, but there perfect for me on the lighter settings, I've tested them quite a bit on Chicago roads and highways. I love the handling response. Sure they are stiffer, but I'm quite a bit lower and I love the look of that too.

Different dampening Smike... or at least used to be... the "size" of the cartridge is the "same", much like MOST other manufacturers.

Paintballer... send them off to be rebuilt. You won't regret that, and even if you did, you could sell them off for a pretty penny.
