Hmm what size tires were used to calculate weights and where did you get the data? I was under the impression that Z1's were almost identical to the weight of the RE11R.

Or at least tirerack lists them as the same weight for 245/40/17 and several other sizes.

All sizes used were 255/40/17, weights were obtained from manufacturer specs.

Great thread, and nice work on the comparison data. The Yoko's are AD08's though.

Ahh gotcha, cool =). Odd though that tire rack and the mfr list the RE-11R on 245/40/17 and 255/40/17 as the same weight, I would have thought those would have to be different weights. I wonder how the actual numbers look pre-rounding.

Excellent thread though =)

One thing I would include in your metrics is wet tire grip. The NT05 is great in dry (like the XS) but not so much in wet. Thats where I prefer the Z1* or AD08.

Good work on compiling the data here though. You must be an engineer

Unfortunately not many people have tested these tires against one another in the wet. Tire Rack is the only source that routinely does wet tests. Everyone else seems to run from the water.

I did some looking into the nitto NT05's because I was looking at picking up a set for my next summer setup. Looking at the tread pattern I expected them to be crap in the wet but the reviews I found had people raving about their wet traction.

This is a review I just googled really quick. The other I had read was a evo track review. The word is they're surprisingly good in the wet though which is good for me.

On the way to Florida, we found ourselves in a deluge from Richmond, Virginia, to the Florida border. We were not expecting the NT05s to channel water the way they did. Their performance in the wet was a quantum leap beyond what we've come to expect from the 555s. Even at speeds approaching 90 mph, the car was glued to the road (no, we don't recommend this at home). The Cobra went through standing water practically unaffected. The only thing that slowed us down was the fact that it got to the point where the wipers could not keep up. We would have never attempted such speeds with the 555s.

Once they wear in, they almost slick out. Much like the NT01.

I've personally taken the Z1 and Z1* to 120-130 mph on the track in full rain.

i have been on the XS for a few months now. not a bad street tires, not bad in the wet (probably not as good as the Z1's). i bought them instead of the Z1's because i got a deal on them. i have autoXed 3 times on them. takes a while to get warmed up, the first event i went to was early in the season and it was like 65* out. my rear tires were always cold when i got off track. tires are much better in 90* events.

not a bad tire, but i wish i had gone with either the NT05 or the Z1. they are also a thin 255 compared to the Z1.

I've used the NT-05 throughout the past year and a half extensively for track use only and I have to say I really enjoy the tire. Given the extreme camber our cars love so much results in odd wear in the tire due to the grand canyon grooving. But they can last (2) entire weekends before flipping them and then another (2)day track weekend, totaling (4) heavy track days...

I'm testing out the Federal 595RS-r at the moment and the current size they had available for me was a 235/45/17 tire. The odd thing was that the width of the 235/45 595RS-r was just as wide as my 255/40 Nitto NT-05. I autocrossed them, non-competitively, last weekend at the MitsubishiSuperStore/SocalEvo.net meet on a fairly large autocross track... The fastest guy was on Hankook r-comps running in the 74second range (not to mention an avid auto-x'r), with me right behind him in the 75second range (not so avid auto-x'r)... I was really trying to figure out the tire pressure in the Federals and it came out to be in the low 30's, 32psi hot to be exact. I kept the rear at 40psi to help the car oversteer a lil, but it just would happen at all... The Nittos love pressure and I would cruise them at 38-40psi depending on how the track is/was... The 595rs-r had huge stopping power with rabestos st-43 pads and come with pretty stiff sidewalls with low TP and the squish technique (lol), being the end test result. I did start to experience roll over at 30psi...

Now this was far from a true tire test and I am by no means an autocrosser, so I will give a full write in my environment on the Federals when I receive them in my proper tires size of the 255/40/17 and put them on a real track, such as Buttonwillow, Big Willow, Cal Speedway or the like... but I am having high hopes for the Federal 595RS-R...

Thanks Matt! It's great that you shared your review. I saw a review on the older model 595rs and that was as good as the older Falken rt-615. It's great to know that their are other tires out there other than the popular ones.

Dyezak Why didn't you include the Hankook Ventus R-S3?

I've heard lots of great things about the Star Specs. Which one did you end up going with?
