Shep upgraded rear diff
Just got my diff put back in. I started removing it at 6pm. Dinner, few beers and a snack later... I finally have it installed. If you can change a tire, you can swap the plates. We shall see how it feels on my drive to work tomorrow morning. Now... Bed
AWESOME! At first I was a little nervous as I'm used to the front end push that this thing has had since day 1.
Best handling mod yet.
Total cost, $31.45 for the bearing puller which I had to modify to fit down inside the holes a little better and grasp the bearing from the inner race. I don't recommend this if you don't have all the necessary tools on hand. At minimum, a torque wrench, sockets, loc-tite, bearing/gear puller and gasket sealer.... And mark the alignment of the parts before removal.
When you open the diff, you'll be able to see if the ring and pinion are meshing properly by the wear marks in the teeth, the marks should be very close to center. If this is good, all you need to do is disassemble, reassemble plates in correct order, torque everything down using the specified thread locking compound and seal the diff up again. Don't forget to fill it back up with gear oil.
Tip: Jack up the rear of the car to allow extra LSD fluid to be added w/o it running out of the fill plug.
