tanabe gf210 too stiff?
tanabe gf210 too stiff?
to make up for some bad service a local shop gave me a set of tanabe GF210s, installed them and aligned my car.
while they told me they would not be much stiffer than stock, would just give the car a good drop and shouldn't harm the dampers that isn't the case at all.
performance isn't that great either....the car feels like it is oversteering almost now. fast decreasing radius corners are scary now. (on all seasons right now but did not have the same problem stock)
should i just pull them or could i help the ride + performance with other suspension parts?

the Tanabe gf210 provides a rake and thus makes the car more oversteer prone. It's also set up for a complete stock car. If you're missing the spar tire out of the back, put it back in, it will help.

What alignment settings did you get? Are you 100% sure they installed everything correct? What kind of tires? Tire psi?
I've got the same springs in my Sustec Pro 7 suspension. I can change the damping on my setup. When my damping is set too low I will get a slow pogo effect and when it is set too high the suspension will transmit more impact shock as well as high frequency pogo over road joints. When the damping is correctly set, the car rides smooth as can be.
Like others have said, your shocks may not be happy at their current ride height. I, personally, never like higher spring rates on a stock shock. On top of that, you should get your alignment checked out... especially your toe. If you have too much toe out, it will make your car oversteer.

tire pressure could be a factor....i had it up for a long trip but it wasn't much more than stock, maybe 1 psi. i am also going to go back to my stock wheels with star specs to see how they behave
right now i have 18" work emotions on there with goodyear eagle f1s, slightly wider than stock
suspension....i don't know what the settings are because they never gave them to me so ya, i should get it reset.
i am a trusting guy....i assumed they would "do things right" and "make things right". still waiting at this point

does anyone know what the damping specs are on the stock shocks?
any suggestions for dampers that would match the spring rate? or do any of the adjustable dampers have the ability to match the spring rate through their adjustibility?
(i also agree about throwing springs on stock dampers....i previously had a gprix that was lowered and with the aftermarket being so limited I was running through struts on a yearly basis)

Those springs are fine for the struts. Struts do not care where they stroke from. The do care when they bottom out.
Ohlins are the only adjustable Evo struts. Bilsteins can be custom valved via rebuilding to match any rate. KYB - nada.
Its a combination of alignment, tire choice/psi, and alignment

i know its somewat different but i just got my bilsteins with gf210s on and im very happy w/ them in the turns or bumps..
i do wonder if they gave you tanabe springs not for evo and BS'd you

According to their site they are 4.4 F and 5.7 R (k/g) Tanabe GF210 ... I had them on my car before and they work well and feels good. I had bilstein shocks with them and were pretty smooth.
